2017 2500 or 3500?

I am in the market for a new truck and I was wondering what everyone's opinion was between a 2500HD Denali or 3500HD Denali. I currently have a 2014 Toyota Tundra. I have never owned a 3/4 or 1 ton truck before. I am not interested in in a dually. It would be a crew cab short box. Im thinking going the diesel route. Any opinions, pros, cons? Thanks!

I'd go with the 3500 SRW. They ride the same and give you a little more capability. In MN the Lic. plates are significantly cheaper too. The 3500 only comes with 18" wheels and do not have TPMS sensors which is nice if swap wheels/tires.

Just so you know the HD trucks only have a Standard Bed (6'6" +-) and Long Bed 8' +-

 

1500's have the short bed 5'8" +-

 

might as well get it right

 

2500's are rated 9900 lbs

3500's are rated 10,000 + lbs and some states have different rules about registration and licensing

I plan on purchasing a fifth wheel next year. I have a 8x24 cargo trailer I turned into a stealth toy hauler. That is rapidly adding weight. So I figured I need to upgrade.

The Tundra has a larger back seat area but the electronics and sound system are crap. I get so jealous when I drive the wife's Yukon.

If you're getting a 5th wheel you wouldn't want the short short bed anyway. Might even want to consider the 8ft bed. Big jump from a tundra to a duramax. I'd say consider the 6.0 but since you're looking at Denalis price doesn't seem to be a huge concern. A dually will give you more leeway weight wise with the 5er too. Personally I'd go with the 3500 SRW if I didn't want a dually. Good luck with whatever you end up with and as always post pics.

That is what people here are saying.

 

For the less than $800 difference, go with the 3500. I wish I had. Just better weight capacity without any loss of milage or size.

I agree with going with a 3500, but it's a lot harder to find single wheels 3500's. If you find the right 2500 I wouldn't be afraid to buy it and get airbags.

I went with the Denali 3500/6.6L Duramax SRW less than a month ago, up from a 1/2-ton Sierra with 5.3L V8. Huge difference in acceleration and low-end grunt! I'm getting my first 5th wheel next month and feel ready to tow anything (well, as long as it's under the 17,200 max 5th-wheel towing capacity). You wouldn't be sorry that you got "too much truck."
