2017 2500 or 3500?

I love my 3500 single rear wheel. No BMV price break in Indiana between 3/4ton and 1 ton. I asked and the BMV chick actually laughed and said that I must have read that online... Indiana is high on vehicle registration though, so congrats to those of you in states that give the registration discount to the one ton trucks.

Guys Im about to take the plunge and order. I do have one question, does the 3500 Denali trucks have heated, power folding mirrors like the 2500? Thanks in advance.

Yes. (the chrome top trailering mirrors)

DQS mirrors are optional on 2500 denali and standard on 3500 denali.

DQS Mirrors, outside heated power-adjustable vertical trailering, memory equipped, upper glass, power-folding and manual extending, chrome. Includes integrated turn signal indicators, consisting of 51 square inch flat mirror surface positioned over a 24.5 square inch convex mirror surface with a common head and lower convex spotter glass (convex glass is not heated and not power-adjustable) and addition of Auxiliary cargo lamp for backing up (helps to see trailer when backing up with a trailer) and amber auxiliary clearance lamp

1500 and 2500 Denali have DL3 mirrors as standard. (these are the smaller 'standard' sized mirrors)
DL3 Mirrors, outside chrome cap, heated power-adjustable, power-folding and driver-side auto-dimming, with integrated turn signal indicators and puddle lamps (includes driver's side spotter mirror)
DQS mirrors cannot be factory ordered on a 1500 Denali, but the dealer service/parts should be able to change them.

If you're getting a 5th wheel you wouldn't want the short short bed anyway. Might even want to consider the 8ft bed.

I don't know why you would say that, bro has towed a 5er (Cougar) w/ an '05 2500HD CC short box for 11 w/ no issues. He just bought the same model in a 2016 version. I'm pretty sure the cab/trailer clearances issues have been solved.

The smaller DL3 mirrors do not have blind spot monitoring/ warning like the 1500 non tow mirrors?

Its a safety thing. I too have heard several times now that installing a 5th wheel on a short bed is a no no, and many places will not do it.

As far as I am aware, neither GMC nor Chevrolet had the short bed offering in their HD pickups. It was either the long or Std sized bed (8' & 6' 6" ) respectively.

I have the Std sized bed in my 2016 HD as well I use whats called a Goose box for my pin box as opposed to the usual pin box.

The Goose Box allows me to use a ball hitch and safety chain anchors which helps me to have a normal bed. All the while keeping me within warranty constraints.

That being said, depending on the year and type of fifth wheel you may need a slider hitch to keep the camper from kissing the rear cab of the truck in tight turns, if you have the Std bed.

Here are a couple pics of the new rig with said set up.

Forget my terminology in my previous post. As far as I'm concerned, the truck box are long, (8') short (6 & a half foot) & sand box. Our family has had pickups since the mid 70s when the 2 boxes available were known as long & short. I don't know why anyone would want to call a 6' 6" box regular. When we started building the crew cabs w/ the little boxes in the Truck Plant, those of us that WERE truck users weren't impressed.

Some of us old farts remember when there was no such thing as the 5'8" box on the 1500's.

All pickups were long box (8' - sometimes called standard box) or short box (6.5')

I worked with an auto parts supplier when the first truck with 5'8" box was being developed. We happily called it the short short box (SSB) -- until someone at GM decided that would be considered derogatory. We converted to the now accepted short, standard and long terminology.

I have been pulling a 30' 5th wheel for 10 years with 2 different standard (6.5) bed trucks. Most of the newer trailers built in the last 15 years have an extended pin box to help elevate any trailer to cab contact. I have a slider hitch that you can slide back about 10 inches when maneuvering in tight places. I have put my trailer in some tight spots and really only felt the need to use the slider a couple times. On my 2015 2500 the hitch is placed about 4 inches further into the box than my old 04 was. So far so go and no turning issues. My only concern is when hooking up the tail gate needs to be down and comes very close to the lower part of the camper but makes it fines with about an inch to spare. The truck just needs to be fairly straight with the camper or I need someone to lift or lower the gate as I pull in or out. Anything smaller than a 6.5 box just does not seem like it belongs on a full size truck..

1500's just have the spotter mirror, same as the 2500.

(neither has the blindspot warning that is available in many GM cars)

Is there much difference in the ride stiffness between the 2500 and 3500? I think it was actually $500 less when I did the build on the 3500 Denali over the 2500... Also don't care for the new sand color interior ... too light IMO to show dirt... I've got black on black 14' 1500 Denali now that is going back under Lemon law... also, wondering if the snow plow prep adds heavier front suspension on either...

And wish I could get some unfitter switches :/
