Any DIC upgrades done recently?

I just bought a 2005 LS 2wd crew cab that doesn't have full DIC functionality (only has odometer, trip, and hour meter). I'm considering doing the DIC upgrade. I've read many posts and understand the process is:

 

1 - Replace steering wheel with one that contains the control buttons. 10364488

2 - Change the clock spring. 26101829

3 - Program the BCM to recognize code UK3

 

My concern is that it appears GM was trying to prevent people from doing the upgrade by significantly raising the clock spring price, and some dealerships wouldn't do the reprogram. I'm trying to prevent hitting a dead-end so I'm wondering if it's still doable. Has anyone done the DIC upgrade lately or know if it can still be done?

I flash Speedometers all the time for the upgrade its easy and lots of people have done it.

 

As for the swap just buy a used column and swap it over. Its a lot cheaper then just the clockspring.

 

Look around at used ones and I bet you can find one complete for less then $150 without the bag.

 

 

The body control module does not need any programming.
