If It's American workers that's a shame! If they are German that's great NEWS!

GM spent the time/money etc. on perfecting the diesels for Europe and North America and what they have now is industry leadership! BRAVO TO GM the Whisper Diesel is the CAT'S ASS!

It's pretty much a global economy if we like it or not. :(

May not be so much American workers, as VW has struck up a partnership with Navistar here to jointly be involved in some projects. Almost seems like a coddling up together to smooth over their wounds that both entities got from the EPA. Navistar got burned real bad on it's EGR only engines, and VW got hit over it's playing fast and loose with ECM tuning. The Navistar Maxxforce 13 is a MAN derived engine, and VW is the head of MAN in Europe. Seems like a logical mix of these two. Wall Street is not dismissing the possibility of a full merger in the future. VW got roughly a 17% stake in Navistar with this current move.

Just wondering, but what would have been the loss if VW hadn't done the emissions scandal, if they would have done it legally and kept the emissions control things working all the time instead of while being tested?

Probably about the same 500.00-1000.00 added cost per vehicle? R&D all associated costs for development testing? probably all in close to the 14.6 billon dollar fine......Now, looking back you could say they are actually at "ZERO" but the loss of diesel sales from here out and the "R&D TIME LOSS" Will added billions more for years to come......

I am guessing at 20,000-25,000 units a month TOTAL volume in USA they will be DONE SOONER THAN LATER! BYE< BYE VW couldn't stand your crap anyway!

Yeah I love it too when someone loses his job...

Seriously? Even though I (being German) stated in another fred that I'd like to see VW paying for this I do not agree that's it great news that people will lose their job. That's just an ignorant statement.

GM has been cheating on consumers (so have others), still I would've never wished for any worker of GM plants to lose their jobs.

I would agree to person(s) in charge should go home.

GET IT? This is a global world of JOBS AND for EVERY LOSS VW JOB IN GERMANY HOPEFULLY GM GAINS A FEW AMERICAN WORKER JOBS. You like German? Please go live there and hope and prey while you live there a competing industrial world country gains jobs and prospers like your doing presently. GM is in the business of Building WORLD CLASS AUTOMOBILES!

Down with the diesels, down with VW! Up with America and American workers which is what I previously stated! Looks like everybody feels the same way as I because we voted TRUMP IN! Please go live somewhere else I am not cheer-leading for anybody else other than AMERICA

Personally, I laud VW for giving it a shot to side step the regs a little and provide a better product to their consumers. I am not down with diesels. Heck, I alone go thru roughly 20,000 gallons of diesel fuel a year. I have a need for diesels. While indeed there was some emissions cleanup that was needed, they have taken this to the extreme to where the air coming out of the exhaust is almost cleaner than the air that went in the intake. And at what benefit. We can keep chasing this rabbit and tweak out the last little particulate of exhaust, but at massively higher and higher cost for smaller and smaller returns. We can run diesels, gasoline, coal plants, etc world wide, all day long, every day of the year and humans contribute less than 1% of all the GHG that is produced worldwide. And they want to quibble over VW letting a very small percentage increase over the mandated level by a bunch of greenies in D.C. whose main motivation is to have everyone riding on bicycles and using hand carts to move their stuff around.

I would buy VW in a heartbeat, if they had a product I wanted to buy. Nothing they are making on the average consumer level or commercial level, gas or diesel, causes me to stop at a dealer and take a look at it.
