Timing chain replacement

Recommended Posts

I have a 1990 GMC Sierra 1500 4.3 v6 2wd. My timing chain slipped causing my gears to be out of alignment. I tore it down timing chain was worn out. Before i go to put it back together i need to know how I put it back into time.

Cyl number 1 at top dead center of compression stroke and align the cam gear to meet the mark on the crank gear. Add chain and put it back together

of course you can.

there is something to think about.

timing chains don't just wear out...you got a serious problem elsewhere.

odd fire v6 to boot.

I wore down one on an old 350, it was the block bent. Dumpster bound.

I got the crankshaft and cam shaft in time got it all back together. Still no start replaced the distributor. Put it back at TDC and the rotor is pointing between 1 and 6 on the cap.

Did you do timing chain on your 96? My 97 runs great at 205k and all original. Except intake manifold gasket of course. Should I be worried about chain slipping or jumping?
