2016 Silverado LT - Fold Your DL3 Mirrors with your FOB like an LTZ&#3

Recommended Posts

Want share my new modification and "How To" on getting my DL3 Mirrors to automatically fold/unfold with the FOB - just like the LTZ/SLTs do.

NOTE:

* This does involve using an Aftermarket Mirror Fold Module

* Cutting/Splicing into your Driver's Side Door Harness - No Plug and Play options available.

* Adding an Accessory Ignition Voltage Circuit

Total Cost - About $50. You can find the module for around $15 and the terminals/connectors for about $10.

Total Time - About 3 Hours. I am OCD and want it perfect! :)

Special Thanks to Alexantics for sending me the Mirror Fold Module for testing! There are many of these to be found on eBay and Amazon. Google "Mirror Fold Module". They range from $15 - $35.

This mod requires an "Accessory Ignition Voltage" circuit which is NOT present in the Driver's Side Door Panel. Using the R.A.P (Retained Accessory Power) Thread found here, I was able to cleanly get this circuit to the door panel.

So I started with making a harness using the GM Upfitter #115C Bulletin - https://www.gmupfitter.com/files/media/photo/545/UI%20Bulletin_115c.pdf

I used 2 wires, yellow and white. Yellow for Accessory Ignition Voltage (Circuit 43) on Pin #8, White for Run/Crank Ignition 1 Voltage (Circuit 1939) on Pin #11. The Run/Crank Ignition Voltage is NOT needed for this, but since I am doing this and routing it to the Body Side X500 Connector, I figured I'd run this now while I am at and maybe use it for future implementation. I did NOT want to run these wires through the boot, instead, I am pinning these wires to an unoccupied slot on the connector.

On the X500 Body Side Connector, there are (7) unoccupied slots according to the 2016 Upfitter Manual. I will be using Pins #27 and #28. When looking at the connector, they are on the 2nd column and the 1st two pins from the top. The top pin is #28, the 2nd pin down is #27. Pin #27 will be Accessory Ignition Voltage Circuit and Pin #28 will be assigned to the Run/Crank Ignition Voltage. Remember that we will NOT be using Pin #28 on the Door Side and is for future use.

Pulled the connector out from the cavity to load the new circuits:

After: 1st two pins in the 2nd column are now loaded.

The harness loom is about 5' to allow harness routing from the X61A Junction Box, up and around to the left side kick panel, and back up going through the hole and into the door hinge location. I zip tied the new harness inline with the harness for that "Factory" look.

Here is the wiring digram I made for how I wired the Mirror Fold Module into the door harness.

Here is a video of how it works!

It's kind of hard to tell in the video, but do you just tap the button or do you have to hold to to fold in the mirror?

Just tap the unlock/lock buttons on the FOB. The fold in/out command is triggered by the door lock/unlock actuators. No need to hold the buttons down.

Does this have to be duplicated on the passenger side as well?

Nope - With LT/SLE, the power fold circuit is a shared circuit that hits both mirrors.

The module is installed inline on the Driver's Side Door harness tapping all the necessary circuits.

I included an Installation Manual at the bottom of the post right before the video.

This upgrade is awesome. Nice job! Assuming it will work on the 2014-2015 as well...

It should. As long as you have DL3 Mirrors and the Fold Switch functional prior to doing this.

When you comin' to Kansas City to install mine? haha

I am working to see if I can make this a Plug and Play harness. The issue is obtaining an "Accessory Ignition Voltage Circuit". I can make the door panel harness plug and play.

I can also make a harness that goes into the X61A Junction Box, but it will require pulling the X500 Body Side (Door Jamb) connector and inserting a pin into an unoccupied slot of the connector.

This is the closest I can get.

I do have a nuisance I discovered this morning.

The module has a required Accessory Voltage Signal. This is different than the constant Voltage it uses to power it up.

When the module detects Accessory Voltage power, it is disabled for safety reasons. It does this so that the mirrors won't fold/unfold while driving or as you shift in/out of gear and the doors are locked/unlocked. You can still use the Fold Button on the bezel and it will fold/unfold.

This morning, I used remote start. Mirrors were folded in from locking it the night before. Since Accessory Voltage was present (on the remote start), unlocking the door with the FOB did not unfold the mirrors.

No big deal - I just hit the Fold button on the bezel.

Basically remote starting turns on Accesssory Voltage and the mirror fold module is disabled for that safety reason.

You can also turn off the automatically fold/unfold with FOB by using the Factory Fold Button. If you fold the mirrors with the Fold Button, the module is disabled.

Thought I'd share.
