2005 Silverado 5.3 V8 - Filled my gas tank the other day and when I jumped back in to the truck the fuel gauge was way past full and pointing down to about the 5 o'clock position. (Full is at about 2 o'clock position) So far, after a few days of driving I haven't seen it move at all. Any ideas?

Turn the key on off several times, chances are the stepper motor has quit.

Same thought came to mind when I read the post....stepper motor

I know this sounds crazy but try tapping over the top of the Gage. I had to do this after I installed a new pump into my tank. Just got stuck. Just a thought

Thanks everyone for all the help! Hopefully just the stepper as has been mentioned by several of you, so I can do a pretty easy fix without worrying about the tank. I had to fix the speedometer stepper last year, and a few bucks plus a soldering iron sure beat the $600 I was quoted on the entire instrument panel. Tim, Saudi sheikh I wish! (At least I wish for his bank account!)

I wouldn't try to do it yourself unless you are good with micro circuitry.. And you might want to have all the motors replaced at the same time if you are planning on keeping the truck awhile, along with the cluster lights.. Just ask Terrance!

Hey there, I just changed my battery yesterday. Once I changed my battery,  it went back to a normal accurate setting. But once I turned the car off, then got back in and turned it back on, it got crazy with going far past the normal threshold. Anyone know if this would just be the instrument cluster panel? Im ab to either order a new one or a fuel pump and Im leaning towards the instrument panel. Easier fix.

thank you in advance
