Another Rim Wheel Question

2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

16" 6 lug

Been still seeking a new GM factory OEM steel rim for my truck. Painted silver/gray.

Are the steel rims actually steel?

I got this from GMparts direct.

"Per the current licensed General Motors parts catalog (not the third-party catalog on the website, part number 9595393 is a 16 x 6.5 inch cast aluminum wheel."

Below is from the partsdirect web site.

Manufacturer: GM

  • Part Number: 9595393
  • Part: Wheel, Steel
  • Part Notes: Steel. Silver, 6 lug. Aluminum, silver. 16x6.5, painted, 6 lug, stamped rjp.
    Order By Description.

So the web site states that the wheel is steel and after emailing partsdirect - they are telling me that it is aluminum.

Are the painted steel wheels/rims actually aluminum - that are genuine GM? Is there another wheel/rim part number for the painted steel wheels 16"?

Well, here is the latest response from them.

"I have entered your supplied information into our licensed GM parts catalog (not the third party catalog used on the website) and below is the part number requested

9595393 16 x 6.5 inch steel wheel; silver in color. 6-lug."

I'm gonna guess that the web site has the wording mixed up.

I did telephone Flow Chevrolet (336) 760-7000 - the brick & mortar dealership for gmparts - as I found the number on another posting here.

Thanks for all of the input. Thanks HoosierZ and 15HDriver.

I ordered the GM painted steel rims. Supposedly real GM new rims. There are many selling China/Taiwan rims and others selling reconditioned rims. Which I don't want.

I fully realize that many/most like fancy alloy or chrome rims.

I had chrome rims on my 2012 new Chevrolet Colorado. The 2nd year up here in hill and mountain country - the salt on winter roads made the plated chrome peal/discolor.

I do have alloy wheels. But in storage. At least I think that they are alloy.
