Gm assist steps paint chipping?

I have the 4 inch GM black tubular assist steps on my 16 crew cab. They are the ones that bend in towards the truck at the front and back. After 8 months the front of the step right behind the front tire is peppered with small chips in the black paint. Anyone else seeing this?

 

Not sure it's even worth replacing them under warranty if they only last another 8 months. I'm thinking some spray on bedliner might hold up a little better?

I've had my 6" chrome ones since I bought my truck with no issue (I realize they are different). Even if you're going to spray them with bedliner, I'd get them replaced if they are under warranty then have them sprayed. Mine was well if you're going to need to remove them from the truck anyways.

I think I'd rather have the 6 inch rectangular ones because they have a plastic end cap that takes all the beating from rocks but I doubt they would switch them as a warranty claim.

Mud flaps. Fixed.

I put husky mud flaps on shortly after I bought the truck. I looked up the warranty on gm accessories and it's only 12 months or 12k miles. Guess I better see the dealer soon to see what they will do.

One of my chrome GM steps chipped, so the dealer replaced them both as there was apparently a style change.

How many miles did you have on the truck?

6k on her now, I noticed the chrome peeling first in the fall, so maybe around 4500 miles or so at most.

I have the same steps and mine are peeling like a mofo. On the right front step there is a quarter sized area of paint missing. Did you ever take yours to the dealership to get them looked at for warranty repair?

I have a feeling you are SOL as dealers are hit or miss when warrant fixing anything paint related due to road debris being a cause.
