Mounting Rigid D series where tow hooks go

I have a 2WD so my truck came without hooks. I am mostly in the city but a few times a year travel to the in-laws that live in the mountains where there is a whole new meaning of pitch black when night hits. I was wanting to add a bar behind the grill but while I was washing the truck I thought the area where the tow hooks go would make a nice spot for some flush mount D series. Has anyone done/seen this? Would being recessed into that pocket kill a lot of the light? Where we go I really need more side spill and height out of the lights.

The pods will only produce so much light. Personally, I would go with the led bar behind the grille if you're driving up in the mountains at night.

I have Rigid D2 Hyperspots.

 

Holy shit do they throw light. A definite improvement to the stock lights.

 

I run the hyper spots and a light bar. The Hyper-spots Shoot a far narrow beam and the light bar floods the ditches.

 

With that being said I would still run just hyper-spots.

I don't think the sidefill is what I'm really going to be lacking. The 17 headlights are pretty good the main place in lacking light is far out. When your driving on a flat road and there's a 15-20' elevation change out confront of you with the headlights it looks like you are driving into a wall damn near due to the cut off.

 

Agent f do you think mounting the D series in the region area would limit their output? How high is the lighting out of them? Does it throw light higher than the headlight cutoff?
