Engine Bay Cleaning

This question goes out to my fellow OCD owners. How do you clean your engine bay and what products do you use? Garden hose vs power washer? What requires covering prior to getting wet on these new engines?

At the local coin op I just use the high pressure soap then high pressure rinse. I try not to hit the air box foam much but Im definitely guilty of hitting the electronics a fair amount. Knock on wood all has been well so far.

 

Usually don't hit under the hood all that often, just in a winter a lot to keep the dang salt outta there.

I just use a damp rag and spot clean some areas. I try to avoid spraying too much water under there if I can avoid it.

Def hose water, nothing under pressure. You don't want to force water where it shouldn't be. Just avoid the alternator. It can get wet, just don't flood it with water.

I spot clean as well.

As for products, I use Megs. APC.

I will treat all the underhood plastics with Chemical Guys "Silk Shine" or a similar VRT dressing from other mfg's.

I would think diluted Simple Green would work just as good if not better than the APC.
