Adding Power Outlet?

So I was reading another forum. I am kinda lost I think. Does my truck already have the inverter for the 12v cig lighter and all I have to do is connect into it? If I have to buy it where do I plug it in? I found the schematics but I'm not very good at reading them [emoji28]

No, you don't need an inverter for 12v, that just comes off your trucks electrical system. The inverter changes DC to AC which is what the outlet is. If you don't have the outlet you aren't going to have the inverter.

Already done.

As in it's been done before?

Where is the inverter located? Part number?

Junkyard. OEM inverter is under the dash. Follow the wires. Target the Tahoe & add the second 110V port.

So I've been calling all over Houston and surrounding area junkyards and none of them have any 2014+ trucks. Any idea?

Install aftermarket inverter under the dash and wire it to factory outlet. Probably way cheaper and definitely better than the 150w factory stuff and nobody will ever know

There's a few reasons why I'm skeptical and not really wanting to do an aftermarket inverter. 1) GM makes the plug go on and off by itself when not in use. I'm afraid wiring it up would take this away and it could run too hot and catch the truck in fire especially if it's wired straight to the battery. 2) I have no idea where to put the inverter under the dash. 3) the back of the plug isn't like a normal household plug. 57a87cde7fc2e2fa8ca371200a69d21b.jpg

Hello everyone, I am wanting to purchase a power outlet for my truck like the one pictured below. I don't have one and it bugs me because we have one in the Acadia and I know I would use it all the time. I am wondering if it's a BCM thing or just plug and play with the addition of wires. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! ca69199b3b9509cd9e51a7b1b6a98dc4.jpg

I'm pretty sure that I have this dash part of you're still looking for one. I took out my jumpseat and put in the full floor console.. PM me if you are interested...

I will agree that the load sensing is nice. Although the plug being energized all the time is not an issue. The inverter running all the time is less than idea but that being said I have an off the shelf inverter in my work van (cheapo harbor freight one) that I forget to turn off all the time and it has been left on for 4 days straight 24 hours a day and I've had zero issues with it. If that thing hasn't burnt down my van yet (had it for about 6 years) than I would say you are probably ok. Even the factory inverter has to be on all the time to some degree to perform the load sensing unless gm is doing some crazy stuff like running 120vac through the bcm

I found the 150 watt outlet very useful one morning. I was getting ready for work and the power was out. Our tankless water heater uses electronic ignition. It doesn't take much power to make that spark it needs. But a 100 ft cord from the truck to the back of the house where the water heater is mounted, got me a hot shower. I've used this on two separate occasions when we've lost power.

Exactly what I want! Now just need to find wiring and inverter out of wrecked or new.

I actually have one of these from when I owned an earlier truck without the 110v outlet. It worked for a laptop charge.

I don't have a need to run power tools inside my truck and I'm not betting I need to blow dry my hair on the freeway. But if I were inclined to have a high powered inverter, I'd get one to toss in the bed drawers in my topper, that has jumper cable clamps on it. I just don't need 110v over 150w often enough to hardwire my truck for it. So, opening the hood and clamping some cables on the battery once or twice a year is not a problem for me.

any pics of tapping into system... I am wanting to put a gaming system in my truck now that i just did a full car audio system, plus i ewould love to be able to run tools and lil air compressors for inflating tires since i race offroad and do recovery. be cool to use the factory plug, or knock it out and put another plug there powered by a quiet inverter.

I also have a 8" sub under my console now.
