My Double Cab sub enclosure

I know there are some double cab owners interested in sub boxes for their trucks. I didn't like the pre-built Silverado boxes I've found online, though I did like the look of the JL Audio stealthbox but couldn't see spending a grand for and enclosure with two 10's.

Here's the one I built over the weekend for my truck. It's constructed from MDF for the top and sides and fibreglass for the floor/sides. it's approximately .65 cubic ft. per side.

I have two JL Audio 10W1v3's in it and its powered by the sub channel of a JL Audio RD900/5 5 channel amp.

That is a good looking box. Is it a sealed enclosure? I look forward to getting a little time to build me one. Seeing this one gives me hope for my system. I have an amp wiring kit on order. Hopefully I am right behind you.

Great work! I love JL audio equipment. My first silverado was an extended cab that I turned the rear bench into buckets, and built a painted enclosure in between with two JL audio 12w6v2 subs, and JL door speakers, in bed amp rack with a TV, headrest tv's, and in dash DVD. Then I got married, had kids, and that hobby ended lol.

10's facing up don't get absorbed by firing into the seat? I have the factory underseat storage bin, am considering taking one side and converting it to a sub enclosure. SImiliar idea, I would make a baffle to mount the sub cut out to fit the shape of the bin then fiberglass reinforce the bin. Way the bin is molded, down firing would be difficult to accomplish without completely cutting out the bottom. Facing up makes it a lot easier to install.

I didn't even make it to my wedding. I sold my 95 corvette when my first daughter was born.

I am inspired to go the same route. Mdf top and sides and fiberglass bottom. I don't really know how to calculate the size I need so I am going as big as will fit then maybe fill with shipping peanuts to get an idea of the air space inside.

What did you do OP to figure your air space? Some calculations then a guess?

I went with one 12"tw3-d4. The box is unfinished , of course, but it hits hard at this point. I worked on this box a couple hours a day for 4 days. Spent a lot of the time deciding which shallow sub to go with or if I could fit a full sized 12". I had to have a 12 and it has to be as small as possible in the floor board. I want it to be finished with an exterior gloss black so it's off to my body shop buddy for that.

Thanks to the OP for the post. I wasn't really thinking about a fiberglass box when I started this build.

Your sub so hitting the bottom of the seat. Which in time will start wearing a hole on the surrounding and you'll get an annoying sound that sounds like a or leaking. If you are able to lift the seat I suggest put doing it. It's also checking out the sub not allowing it to travel freely

I located it under the seat so that I can add the 12"grill from jl. Going to get it today. It is tight under there but with the speaker grill I think it has a chance. It's a trade off, but I wanted a 12" at all cost and I didn't want it taking up to much of the back seat floor space too.

Well the grill does and doesn't work. It works and protects the sub but when I sit in the back seat I can feel the grill buckle inward then pop back out when I get up.

I didn't realize how much of the 12" JL TW3 sub was above the mounting line. It is more than other shallows. Because of this it is very tight so I am going to use my router and cut out 1/4" for the sub and see if that will work.

This isn't an issue with no one in the back or with my little girls but if I or another grown up sits back there it might bend the grill. I am still trying to perfect this issue. Other than that my custom box with sub hits, HARD!!!

The box is unfinished, I will be painting it black.
