2004 Sierra Tranny Compatibility Question

Hi there!

 

This may be a commonly asked question, I've tried researching to find an answer and have come up dry so here it is:

 

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 5.3l with a bum tranny, I have a junked 2000 Sierra 4.8l with a GOOD tranny.

 

I had my local dealer run both vin numbers and both have a 4l60, yet different part numbers, they could not tell me whats different between the two transmissions.

 

so my question is:

Can I use the 2000 4.8l 4l60 in my 2004 5.3l truck? what if anything do I need to get/modify to make it work?

I don't intend to do this job myself I just want to ensure I have what I need before I drop the two trucks off!

I'd bet that it will bolt right up. My money is on the electronics being different. You'll have to call a tranny company and find out what the deal is.

 

I've done plenty of swaps like this ... on pre-1996 model-year vehicles ... when things were SIMPLE. *sigh*...

I think the only thing different is the PNP switch. It is like a $60 part.
