Jeffrey001 Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Any updates to this? Showed the P0521 on my 08 suburban but the guage seemed to be working properly. I cleared the code and drove a few hundred miles then changed the oil and filter. It immediately jumped about 15psi in pressure at idle, about 40psi now. I've noticed a lot of people with this code are experiencing erratic oil pressure readings on their dash, but I've never had that. Thanks Quote

The code sets if the predicted and actual pressures are less than 6.8 psi or more than 7.3 psi. In general, at around 160K miles the o-ring in the oil pump pick up tube is plumb wore out. Folks start seeing erratic and then low oil pressure. An easy way to test this is to fill the motor with about 8-9 quarts of oil and idle the engine. If the low pressure stops, it's time for a new o-ring. We've known some down on their luck fellas to drive around with that much oil for tens of thousands of miles before they could make the repair. Pguldi Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 I may consider doing some more oil changes more often and see what happens, I can ask for the records, I believe all I received before was the "carfax" Its a shame that dealerships can't even be trusted these days and really, really irritates me when they talk down to you about your vehicle, like you know absolutely nothing, which I suppose is 90% of the people who go to a dealer, I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I don't know much about newer cars or much about motors but I know enough, I have a jeep that I wrench on regularly as well as weld and build my own parts, just don't know much about diagnosing problems all the time how do you do an engine flush? Did you ever figure out the issue? My 2013 is having identical issue. Quote
Jdb510 Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 I’m having this issue. 08 Suburban 5.3. My oil pressure dropped to zero. Replaced the sensor and had pressure then bled down to zero after a short drive. Replaced the oil pump next and a new oring in the oil pickup. Had great pressure for a week then gauge stated reading 40 at startup then stayed 18-20 psi. It had bleed down to zero once and then I got a P0521 code. Replaced the sensor again and same readings. Now I have hooked up a direct gauge at the front of the motor and now show a 20 psi diff from direct garage to cluster. The cluster shows 20 psi at idle and the direct shows 40. Driving direct shows 52 psi and cluster just above 20. I clear the codes and it keeps coming back. What is my issue???? Any help is greatly appreciated! Quote
Bani Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 I have a 2011 Silverado that was sitting for about 6 months due to a bad transmission, I got the transmission fixed but after that I got the p0521 code I changed the sensor but the pressure slowly goes down to 0 after driving for about 15 mins I changed the oil but no the oil filter. Would that maybe fix the problem? Quote
