Greetings All! New Here...

Hey all! My name is Chris and I'm from Fort Collins, Colorado along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. I recently was given a new (to me) work truck, which is (I think) a...

2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4x2, "Double Cab"

It's got what I believe is a 4.3L Ecotec V6 engine.

I freely admit that I am pretty naive when it comes to these trucks, and GM in general as I've always been a Mopar guy. Nothing against GM at all, just never owned any.

Unfortunately, whoever had possession of this truck previous to me did NOT treat it with care and it's very obvious. Despite it being less than 2 years old with only 21,000 US/miles on the odometer, the passenger side view mirror glass is shattered, the tailgate has a nice dent right in the top and the interior is just plain inhumane.

I've decided that I'm going to have the truck professionally cleaned and detailed as soon as possible. But I wanted to make sure I found a community of people familiar with these trucks in case I have questions.

I've had the truck for less than 24 hours so I'm still in the process of figuring everything out that it needs. But I'm thinking of switching it to Mobil1 Fully-Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil, replacing the air filter, running a can of BG44k through a full tank of gas, having my mechanic check the condition of all fluids including rear differential, and having the charging system tested for any irregularities.

I'm curious to know if there is anything I need to make sure I watch out for, any specific maintenance items I need to pay specific attention to, and any hidden achilles' heels I might need to know about.

Thanks for your wisdom in advance!

My truck is very similar. I got mine about a month ago. 2015 double cab, v6, 26k miles. I'm a state bellowed you in NM. Got mine from Carmax and it was in pretty good shape but don't know exactly how it was treated however there was no damage to it.

Welcome! Have you checked to see if your truck has used up its free oil changes? Your truck should still has some warranty and may be worth taking to a gm dealer for a full inspection. They may even give it a free wash and vacuum!

What a great thought. I will definitely do that. Thank you!

Ah, good to know. I guess I'll run the VIN to check for incomplete/outstanding recalls.

Welcome to the organization! Along with air filter highly recommend you change the cabin air filter as well. Located behind glove box and even a non wrench head can tackle. Handling stains in the interior is a pain but can be managed with the right tools. You have the right ideas with changing to Mobil 1 and replacing fluids. Good luck with it all.

Forgot to mention this place is full of people with tons of knowledge and willing to help should you have a question. However don't lurk around too much or you will end up spending crazy money on mods from looking at so many nice trucks.

Oh I know the "mod bug" well from my Mopar forums. Thankfully company policy prohibits me from modding this particular truck.

Random question... what on earth is this little slot for above the light switch and dimmer switch?
