I have run synthetic in my front and rear differentials for decades in numerous GM trucks and cars and NEVER had any leaks. Lots of misinformation about synthetics and they get blamed for poor gaskets and shoddy workmanship.

 

Big believer in synthetics, which is why I was confused by what I thought I read.

Seal replaced twice, by dealer.

 

Nothing obvious wrong with the inner axle shaft. Maybe the bearing? Truck is in dry dock for other issues. May drop the whole assembly for a look-see.

Assume you checked the vent for function?

 

I chased a pinion seal leak for a while, it was the wear surface on the pinion yoke itself that the seal rode on. Took three dealer trips, and finally a run to a driveshaft/differential specialty shop and they found the pinion yoke was bad.

who makes a good transfer case seal?

Either a GM replacement or National...those would be my choices.
