Sport bar install

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about buying a sport bar for my truck double cab GMC Sierra, I'm just wondering about a couple things.

-what is a good price to pay?

-how hard is the install/including the wiring

-can I still use a box cover?

a trick that helps you search is to use google. type in gm-trucks.com and then your key words. it brings up way better results sometimes.

the only thing I'm not a fan of is how far that back bar is away from the cab. You think they would of put sheet metal in front to hid that.

A guy 3 hours away from me is selling a black ops bar for $400 I think it might be worth the drive

Wiring involves messing with the UBEC under the hood. Adding and removing some pins, etc. That's just to make the 3rd brake lamp function. If you do the lights as well, that's more wiring.

GM labor time for the bar is 2.5 hours. Bar retails for $995, 84100379. The lights are an additional $995 and 2 hours labor. Two versions, with factory fog (84095159), and with out (84095160).

GM also offers an in between the rails cover for use with the sport bar, 19355363 $499. Its made by Advantage. 6ft 6in box only.

It's like a headache rack. In this case other than ascetics useless.

My girlfriend thinks the same thing she hates the look lol, I like this one because of the storage rack 2a791067ad72f4e75d4fbbde630f4f5c.pngfc3aff782a3c5f082b79b0e25ddf9822.png

4.5 hours so its $450 to install assuming a dealer charged $100/hr. The parts are the big $$$ at almost 2k for the bar and lights. IMO, a Back Rack/Pro Rack is much more cost effective.

No way you could do it yourself? Or even splice the wires to your break lights? Rather then running it to the battery? Like how you hook up a reverse camera
