offset and largest tire

I want to get new wheels and need to know if a -30 offset is okay? I know it may stick out past the fender a little but I would like to see 1 - 2 inches past the fender. The size rims will be 17x9 or 18x9 also, whats the largest tire I can fit?

Any help would be great.

Hey there. I tell you a little bit about my experience with my truck and the clearance issues I've had.

So I have a 2014 with a 6" procomp. I bought the truck with this, and it originally had 22" wheels... and I'm not exactly sure what the other specs were, but I believe it was a 22x9 +1 offset.. somewhere around there, it didn't have negative offset I know that for sure. But those were on there when I got the truck and the front valence was cut at an angle to clear the front (you'll have to do that with any set up bc of these square wheel wells) and it would hit on the cab side when flexed like backing down a driveway. It would hit somewhat hard because the plastic piece you could see where it was hitting and worn down, also the tred on the tire was worn down on the sides from hitting.

I then sold that set up because I wanted a 20" wheel for more tire sidewall. This time I went with 20x10 -12 offset fuel couplers. These hits more and harder than the old set up. And I use my truck off-road a decent amount, so when I'm hunting I hit the cab side a lot while offroading and it's very very annoying. When it's fully flexed you can't do full crank because it hits so hard. So since I use my truck off-road a lot, I'm going to have to get behind the plastic piece on the cab side and do some work to give myself some more clearance there. It's just too annoying to have to worry about rubbing while I'm offroading.

So with that all being said, my two set ups are just fine if you are a city slicker who doesn't go off-road all the time. Driving around town isn't an issue for me, it just rubs a little every once in a while backing down my driveway. But if you are a hunter or goes offroad all the time like me, I'd definitely suggest going with a setup that doesnt have too much offset. If you do, then just plan on having to do some work to that cab side of the fender like I will have to with mine.

Plus a lot of these lift kits are knuckle lifts where the knuckle kicks out the front tires a little bit. So that's nice because it gives the truck a little more stance. Then for me I threw a set of spacers for the rear to make it even because it looks awful with the fronts sticking out and the backs tucked in. I have 2" spacers for my back wheels, but that's a little too big because now the back sticks out more than the front. I'd do 1.75" spacers if I could go back.

So there's my experience. Hit me with any questions you have. Also since I mentioned it, I still haven't found any detailed instructions for doing the inner fender mod (or NorCal mod whatever you wanna call it) for the 2014+ models like they do for the 2007-2013 models. Can anyone send me to the right place for some detailed instructions for the 14+ models? Thanks

I think if you go -30 it will rub pretty bad. I have -12 18×9 and it sticks out past the factory fender. I have flares on so its about even with those maybe a hair outside of flares. I drive offroad a lot and only time they rub is backing down an incline and I have a 4" lift. My wife's truck is leveled with factory +27 offset and 305/55 20 and they are even with fender.

So in short, if you go with -12 or little more it will stickout past fender with much less rubbing than -30. You may even get enough stick out with 0 offset and the right tire.

OP, do you have a level or a lift? Or stock? People need a bit more info to help or you'll get answers all over the spectrum that may or may not apply.

My truck is stock except for the 2 in lowering kit I install on the rear to level it out.

You'll rub bad. I have 7" of lift with 20x10 -24 offset wheels, 35x12.5r20 tires and I had to trim the actual bumper for them to clear. Stick with either a 0mm offset or a + offset

I'm running a 20x10 -24 with a 2 inch level. 285/55/20 tires which is a 33x11.50 I trimmed about 2 inches off of the little plastic trim on the fender, now it just rubs the liner. Anything bigger on a -24 will definitely require some significant trimming. If your wanting a bigger tire go with less offset in a 20x10 or go with a 20x9

I would advise you to search the forum for lowering posts and see what they are running.

As you can probably tell, most people with negative offsets have 5"+ lifts. And all the tire recommendations you're seeing are all with levels or lifts. You absolutely need to include relevant information in your questions or you won't get answers that help you.

You shouldn't need that much offset with a larger tire, my 33x12.5's stick out past the fender about 1/4" with stock 20's with a +19mm offset. Truck is leveled and will rub on sway bar.
