Ok, I am a new member and need some help. I have a 2015 Silverado LTZ Crew Midnight Edition and I just bought a Leer 100XQ. I was surprised to find out that the dealer for Leer did not hook up the electrical stuff which includes the lights, third brake light, and auto lock. I have looked at the instructions they provided and they are not very good. Does anyone have any detailed instructions or a link to a video of how to install this stuff? I hate to pay another few hundred bucks to get it installed when the dang topper was $2500 by itself. So basically I am looking for where on my 2015 Silverado to hook up the wires for the light, the hook up for the wires for the third brake light, and where to hook up the auto lock which is supposed to unlock when you unlock the door of the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check out these links. I'm about to do this for my 2017 and a ARE Z series cap. You're looking for the X63A Rear Junction Block

Also, you might have a bit better luck posting in the year-specific forum if you need more info. Mostly because this varies a bit with the model and trim, in my understanding.

Btw, if you have any info into hooking up the e-lock, let me know [emoji1360]

Save your time and hassle...

Under the fuse panel under the hood on the right side of the engine compartment there is a schematic of what fuses are where. If you look at Fuse #38 it is the CHMSL wire. If you purchase a micro 2 add a fuse line you can tap into this fuse and just run the line to the back of the truck. This was the easiest way I could figure out how to run this wire since nobody can show me a picture of where the X63A Junction Block is on my 2015 Silverado. Although what Corncob posted are the best I have seen to date.

Here is the 10Amp add a fuse line put into Fuse #38 location. I tested the line with a light tester and stepping on the brake to make sure the wire went hot when the brake was depressed and it worked!

I connected the wire to the add a fuse and ran it through the firewall at the main wiring harness grommet. I cut a small slit in the nipple that sticks out of the front of the grommet and pushed a thin rod through the firewall with the wire taped to it with electrical tape. This took some trial and error but I finally got it through.

With the wire box cover removed I was able to get the blue wire to run just left of the box (marked with yellow arrows). I then ran this under the carpet and out through the emergency brake grommet in the floor. Then I ran the wire back to the back of the truck and up through the left brake light.

The wire that I ran from the fuse block connects to the red and white wire from the LEER wire harness. I used a connector here but took the picture during my testing so the wire is just twisted together.

This was the factory wire harness from LEER that is inside the topper. The directions they gave were not very good. I had to experiment with the pin connectors and had to order new crimp pins because I had the wires crossed up. Green wire from the power lock went between the red and red/white wires and the blue wire went right next to the green. (don't confuse my blue wire I used for my CHMSL line from the fuse box with this blue wire from the auto lock wires).

This is the wire harness plugged in on the inside of the topper. You can see the blue and green wire that runs from the inside of the cab (connected to the lock and unlock wires). You can search the Pop and Lock directions and find very good directions for hooking this up. Make not that the wires to hook up under the door sill are a tan/yellow thicker wire and gray/green. Both of these wires are slightly thicker than the rest. These directions are pretty much the same for hooking up the wiring for the auto lock on the LEER topper.

Here is the third brake light working FINALLY!!!! This was not an easy job to figure out with no help. Hopefully if someone gets stuck they can use what I did to help them get it installed. I wired a hot wire from under the dash to power the interior light of the topper, grounded the ground wire in the left taillight, then ran the wires for the auto lock mechanism. Everything works and I am pleased with being able to do it myself.

It uses the connector that the bed lights are currently using.  It provides a ground wire, a third brake light wire, and the cargo light feed that works off the dash switch with the same functionality as the factory bed lights.

If you have the bed lights and want to add a third brake light you can track down the terminal and seal and add the wire to the connector body you have, or get this connector and splice the bed lights on to it.

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.

    • It wouldn’t have happened if the government hadn’t mandated outrageous fuel mileage standards. It does very little for the consumer. It adds cost. Back during Covid there was a chip shortage. They gave a rebate for your truck if it didn’t have the chip to turn on cylinder deactivation. It was 50$ because at best you may see 1/2 a mile increase per gallon. Splitting hairs each fuel mileage trick wasn’t mandated. The government doesn’t do the engineering work and say use this until it’s already in use and they like it. The fuel mileage was mandated. And those add ons the results. There’s a mandate and they are the results.
