Kind of hard to mess an TXV up these days. Orifice tubes worked well, but failed consistently. Look at the rubber on the front of the compressor make sure it isn't starting to look like it's melting. Also, if you don't have a way to get gauges on the high and low side ports, it's hard to figure out what's going on. Go grab yourself some gauges from harbor freight or something. Let us know what the pressures read at idle and give the ambient temperature as well. Make sure you don't have any fluctuation in the needles when the compressor clutch is engaged. This would signify a bad compressor.

What if it Rubber on front does look like it’s melting? Also sounded like marbles in a blender and truck was trying to die. Ran fine after I cut the belt off.

The compressor is dead. If it’s trying to kill he engine, the compressor is internally locked up. Have the compressor replaced, but first hav the lines checked for metal debris from the compressor failure, if no metal in the lines and the dessicant bag appears okay with no metal, slam the compressor on ad it’ll be fine, if metal, clean lines and evaporator core, replace the condenser and compressor. Don’t forget to add oil for the components removed.

Thanks that’s what I figured. Pulley turns so figured internally locked up. Where is the dessicant bag? Something I can check?

It’s built into a chamber on the right side of the condenser. The whole condenser has to be removed to inspect.

That’s easy enough, any tips on where or how to disassemble/inspect once out? I swapped condenser before and don’t remember anything that looked like it could come apart on that.

On the bottom of the chamber you’ll see what appears to be a cap on a 55 gallon drum, I just use some needle nose pliers to manipulate the cap off, once it’s starts moving, you can unscrew it by hand, should have 2 o-ring seals that seal it to the chamber. The condenser WILL NOT be serviceable once metal is discovered, it has to be replaced.

Thank you sir! I may just take it in, still thinking about it. Luckily I have all winter haha.

My gut says there will be metal there, if not though I could swap compressor and just leave belt off and unplugged and take it in to get oiled and charged.
