6 speed 2-3 clunk

Recommended Posts

I've always noticed the 6 speed making a few strange noises. Just happened to be driving with windows down and radio off and noticed a distinct clunk when shifting from 2 to 3, cold and warm.

I also notice if I accelerate briefly then take my foot off gas about 2 seconds later as the rpms come down I get another clunk sound.

Suggestions?

Changing transmission fluid can do wonders. My wifes Honda Pilot had a hard shift from second to first. It was so bad that I thought it might break something in the drivetrain at times. I changed the fluid and it got rid of it completely!

I have 25,000 miles and still experience this. From my research it seems to be as it was designed and is normal operation. If you find anything else out, I’d love to hear it hear on this thread!

When I had my borla exhaust on I stopped hearing the clunk. Now that I put stock back on I hear the clunks and thunks and radio static again....

My truck did this from day 1 until i tuned it. I went with a standard Diablo tune with the firm shift option and it no longer clunks.

I'd love to do that but I spent all the money on the factory extended warranty and i don't want to mess with it.
