'14 Denali HD Tailgate Issue

Hi All,

Got a question.  When I bought my truck about a month ago, neither the salesman nor I could open the tailgate.  So I went back to the dealer to get it fixed a couple days later after they got the registration transferred to my truck.  The service manager took a look at it and told me that because the truck has a chrome tailgate latch, the tailgate requires a little push to the left and up from the latch while simultaneously pulling up on the latch to get it to open.  Well, the tailgate does open as he said with little effort to make it happen.  It sounded fishy to me, but what do I know.  Anyway, the tailgate does open using his "trick" and is really not that big of a deal.  However, I would like to know if what he said is correct.  Does anyone else have this problem with chrome plated tailgate latches?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your truck has been hit from behind and the gate is out of alignment and when they fixed it they didn't  bother fixing the tailgate.

Go back to the dealer.

Try every tailgate on the lot.

None will have the same procedure as yours to open.

I just helped a friend fix his tailgate on a 2010 2500 HD Chevy. He damaged it while moving a 5th wheel trailer.

Took a while but it closes like a new one.
