Interested in Meth

Thinking about doing water meth injection on my 6.2, mainly for cleaning/longevity but increased power is never bad. My questions are would it be worth it or even work on a N/A motor? And would I need to make any adjustments to my tune? Looks like snow performance makes a kit that would probably be good option. What do you think?

I had one on a turbo car and it was great... but n/a?  Snow claims 10-15 hp increase n/a but that probably needs to be tuned in.  So your looking at @ $500 for kit and $500 for the tune.  You might as well get a nitrous kit at that point.  Not to mention, can you even find anyone that has experience tuning a newer GM truck thats n/a w/meth.  I doubt it.

Water/Meth's primary advantage is cooling the intake charge. In boosted engines, the compression of the intake charge heats the pressurized air, water/meth is used to cool it under hard pulls it also reduces the chance of pre-detonation in low compression boosted motors. The only benefit I can see it having in a high compression NA motor is perhaps the possibility that it will enable you to run a lower octane rated gasoline while avoiding "pinging". You could probably run 87 in the 6.2L with a water/meth system without worry. If you want performance, add a 100 shot of NO2.

Klug Performance has done 2 NA 2014+ GM trucks running meth. He also runs meth on his personal GM vehicle. If you have a 2016 or older its only 250 dollars for the tune, 2017 or newer 500 for the tune.

Well thats good to know.  By your sig, I see your a big fan of them lol.  What kind of gains in power did he make?  Does he remote tune?

Yeah I have known him for 14 year now. Nice to have a buddy who is a tuner. He is able to remote tune and the best way to get in touch with him is via his Klug Performance Facebook page. We really don't have access to a dyno in this area to show wheel HP gains but he can show crank HP gains via the air flow rates on HP Tuners. For my truck started at the stock 355hp and on 93 with the Airaid MIT, K&N drop in filter and a muffler swap was right around 385-390hp. On e85 same mods truck was showing right around 400-405hp. The pictures below show the the gains at the track. I just have the one 93 time slip and the rest was on e85.

Nice man.  I might hit them up and see what kind of gains he got n/a with meth.  I had a stock 130k shortblock foxbody 302, stock cam and ECU, 5spd, with a tiny 62-1 turbonetics turbo in a relatively heavy 3400lb car.   With the meth, I basically capped off the wastegate (25+psi) and went 103mph in the 1/8 shifting into 4th 200ft from the boards (wrong gear/tire for 1/8).  In the two years I had the meth on (and I drove the piss out of it damn near every day), only blew one headgasket getting greedy because I was tuning on a/f and not lamda (had an in-car wideband).  Meth is legit.

Are you running high 13's with a 5.3L or 6.2L? That is damn good for 5.3L bolt-ons if so. If you are taking your truck to the strip, water meth would not be a bad idea at all if you have a buddy who tunes and can get the kit cheap. See if you can start killing 13.7s 2018 Ecoboosts with a NA 5.3L haha.

2017 Silverado Double Cab Z71 4x4 5.3, 3.42 gears, stock 265/65/R18 wheels, 6 speed, full street weight, 5400lbs with me in it, and only mods are  Airaid MIT, K&N drop in filter, Black Widow 250 muffler swap, and a Klug Performance e85 tune. :)

Theres already tune only ecoboosts in the 12s so thats not gonna happen.  Nitrous + meth is the only logical next step.  Course they could go boost + nitrous + meth.  It never ends.  But you don't have the turbo headache.  They are awesome...but they are an effing headache.

I’m happy to find out there are some N/A 2014+ trucks running meth. The truck has a 93 tune right now in the lower 48 but if my wife and I make the transition to Alaska full time I might need meth since premium is only 90 octane up here. For now I’m really more interested in the cleaning function of the meth.  I think it would be much better than a catch can since it can clean buildup that’s already there.
