TPWS system test? 2008 Silverado

Is there a way to scan, or test to see if it is all sensors or just one etc? I inflated all my tires to 40 psi, did the step by step instruction in the owners manual to reset them, and still the warning light flashes, then stays on solid.

And if i have to replace them, any advice, cost, type or just take it to the dealership

Thanks,

The tool is cheap for relearning and I recommend everyone have one just in case when you go to the service station and they rotate your tires you don't have to go back if they forgot to re calibrate it.

Now I am gonna try to help you the manual way in the next post.

  1. Ignition ON, initiate the TPM Learn Mode using one of the following procedures:
    • On vehicles equipped with keyless entry, simultaneously press the keyless entry transmitters lock and unlock buttons until a double horn chirp sounds indicating the Learn Mode has been enabled. The left front turn signal will also be illuminated.
    • On vehicles not equipped with keyless entry, press and release the driver information center (DIC) INFO button until the TIRE LEARN message appears on the DIC display. Press and hold the SET/RESET button until a double horn chirp sounds indicating the Learn Mode has been enabled. The left front turn signal will also be illuminated.
  2. Starting with the left front tire, learn the tire pressure using one of the following methods:

Caution: Over inflating tires may cause personal injury or damage to the tires and wheels. When increasing tire pressure do not exceed the maximum inflation pressure as noted on the tire sidewall.

    -  Increase/decrease the tire pressure for 8–10 seconds then wait for a horn chirp. The horn chirp may occur before or up to 30 seconds after the 8–10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached. Once the horn chirp has sounded, the sensor information is learned and the turn signal in the next location to be learned will illuminate.

  3. After the horn chirp has sounded and the right front turn signal is illuminated, repeat step 2 for the remaining 3 sensors in the following order:
    1. Right front
    2. Right rear
    3. Left rear
  4. When the left rear sensor has been learned and a double horn chirp has sounded, the learn process is complete and the RCDLR exits the learn mode.
  5. Ignition OFF, adjust all tires to the recommended pressures.

One last thing. What does your door say the tire pressure should be? If you want it to be 40psi you need to go to the dealership and have them re calibrate the RCDLR to have the tires set to 40psi of pressure.

Thanks. I did 40 psi due to recommendations from others using the tires I have Cooper AT3

And that is what SEARS put in them when bought.

Will too much pressure cause the sensor to light too?

Thnx, bought the tool, and just adjusted to 35 psi cold, 58  degrees outside. Hopefully it will do something, otherwise, relearn sensors with the tool, then if that doesnt work, off to figure out getting new sensors installed.

Does your 2008 not have a DIC switch so that you cannot read the tire pressures?  The sensors are supposed to last ten years.  Mine are dying off at around 8.

sensors are cheap on amazon, like 20 a piece or so. just have to buy them and have a service center install them which means a remount and balance. they have batteries so they will eventually stop working. I have one on my 2010 that is not working intermittently so I'm sure its batteries. sounds like swathdiver above has the same issue on his 09

Tool did not work. Well, it registered driver tire once, but failed  to honk born after the one time to carry on to other tires.

Does your truck have remotes?  Make sure no other remotes or vehicles with TPMS sensors are around when doing this according to the owner's manual.  It is my understanding, that in order to use those tools, the procedure must have first been initiated by Tech2.  This applies to older trucks up until 2011 if memory serves.  After that they have to use those tire tools.

There's a seller on ebay selling takeoffs from brand new vehicles.  Paid around $45 for 4 brand new GM sensors and had two installed since May and now going to replace the other two and be done with it for a while.  Should have had them all replaced in May but was trying for 10 years!

If it doesn't honk on the second tire move to the third tire. if it doesn't honk on that move to the forth. If the horn doesn't honk on the sensors, that normally means those sensors are bad.

Thanks. I guess I need to get some sensors.
