2018 Yukon - Help me understand "Media" function

The best, most reliable, easiest Bluetooth/Pandora connection I've ever had in any vehicle, is in my 2014 Silverado.  Every time I get in my truck, it automatically connects to Pandora, without exception. Very easy, no brainer.

 

Now I buy this 2018 Yukon for my wife. Salesman says, "This bluetooth connection is much better than your Silverado".

 

OK.

 

So I go to "Media" on the GMC Intellilink screen of the new Yukon. Then I hit "Pandora" on my phone.  Everything works great.  Of course, I expected it to AUTOMATICALLY re-connect every time I start the vehicle.

 

I get back in the Yukon an hour later, and the Media screen comes up, but NOTHING.  I have to go back to my phone and open Pandora from the phone.

 

So, if I have several short trips, will I have to do this every time?  Is there something I'm doing wrong?

After messing with this for a week, my IT-expert son installed the "Tasker" app on my phone instructing it to Load Pandora every time my phone connects to Yukon Bluetooth.

 

Works perfectly every time.

 

(May seem trivial, but I just don't like messing with phone while driving).

Not a solution for bluetooth, but maybe a 'media' solution.  I have many hours of tunes on a usb and leave it installed in the console of the truck.  Always picks up where it left off, even if I've been listening to the fm radio or sateillite in between. 

 

I like the tiny ones like the Lexar one - no risk of it getting hit and broken off.  Available in 32/64/128 sizes

Can you give me more details on the app? I searched for it and didn't see anything obvious under "tasker" in the Apple Store. I am also annoyed by the failure to connect when I get in the vehicle... it works great about half the time, othe times I reset the radio and then the phone and I'm almost where I'm going by the time I have music.

I think Tasker is an Android app.

 

I also went with the mini micro usb 128 gig for the media aspect. With that amount of storage you could cruise coast to coast twice and still not here the same thing twice.

Yes Tasker is Android only. Pretty slick app. You can do a lot with it. I'll bet there's something like this for iPhone but I'm just not familiar with it.

Thanks for the follow up, work pays for the iPhone so I'll just keep living with it, I'll get my wife's Samsung set up though. I do have a USB drive with a good amount of music I just need to take the time to organize it, right now it's just a random pile of music when I plug it in.

Truck might be able display and play by artists, albums, genre, etc  regardless of file sort order on the usb.

 

Something like a 5000 file and 15 deep directory limits. 

 

Might be worth a quick try before spending a lot of time sorting (or make a copy to use in truck will doing the sort on another copy at home)

 

If I'm wrong about the truck being able to sort, just pretend the random mode was selected:)

I need to do more than plug it in I guess... I'm usually on the go with a 2 and 4 year old. I need to go sit in the truck for a bit I guess. Thanks for the tip!

Has anyone made playlists on a usb stick that work with the system and how did you do it

      Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
