Cabin Filter 2008 Silverado 1500

Searched high and low and cant seem to find out if these trucks have them or not.  Is it a common item?

I pulled glove box out, didnt see anything obvious that would encase a filter.

There is a ducting under the dash, passenger side, do I need to take that out to check?

Thanks in advance,

I dont have one on my 2008, if you looked behind the glove box you would see it. Its a horizontal piece with 2 little clips to unhook. the filter lays flat slides in. Anyway I have one on my 2015 but not on the 2008.

I dont think the 2008 has one, however there is a kit you can buy to add. There is a spot for the filter, but to cut cost they deleted it.

From under the dash on the passenger side you will see the outline where the filter used to be located its roughly 1.25" wide x 10" long.

If you search Dorman 259-200 you will see the retrofit kit door.

There are several youtube videos showing how to cut the opening, and it is fairly simple to do. I did mine in about 30 minutes.

It's only available for the 1500's and not heavy duty.

Ahh, makes sense when I was looking at Rock Auto they had retro fit filters.

Thanks, I will look into this.

Yup, I think 99, 2000, and 01 had them but then GM discontinued putting them in the trucks until 2014?

Well, are they worth 50 bucks, that is the question to retrofit. I took mine apart, the bottom vent section, and it has no filter, but is ready if need be.

I would probably also clean the heck out of the evaporator there etc. BG Frigi-clean type clean..if its been 10 years, its probably filthy.

GMT900s do not have them.  They can be added.  There are two different kinds, one for base model dash and one for mid-upper level trims.  I believe the base models use two filters and the latter can use the folding larger filter.  Dorman 259-201 is what we put into our 2009 GMC.

just expect a noticeable reduction in air flow out the vents once you put the filters in.

No worries. here in SC, I think the cleaner air is worth it due to allergens, pollen type stuff. My daughter has exercised induced asthma, and a few allergies. So, anything to clean it a little helps.

I was looking at the RockAuto instructions. It seems the filter V cuts are on the wrong side. I looked at the filter, and the arrow for flow direction would have the V cuts on the other way. Here is a picture of mine, ACDELCO CF1194, and a thread where someone installed one, and his is going the way I believe is correct.

The "V" notches are there to allow you to bend the filter while installing it without breaking the filter frame, which will not allow the filter to seal up correctly when everything is bolted back together.  Bend away from the arrow.

Put filter kit in today. Pretty easy. Evap was dirty, so I lightly brushed everything out.

I used a scribe to start the process of cutting the plastic out. Then a box cutter.

Once I took the plastic out I cleaned it, and put filter in. All is well. Pretty simple system.

But, is it worth it. Maybe. Think about the windows coming down etc during normal driving.

Oh, well..Thanks for the help.
