Bumpers

Does anyone know if there are any off road style light weight aluminum bumpers for our trucks? My truck is a driver and will never see more than a dirt road. I don't need a steel bumper and don't want the extra weight.

Are you looking for any specific style? SCA has some options (http://www.scaperformance.com/gmc-products) There are other pre-runner styles as well that I believe are aluminum or steel tubing. What are you looking to do it for? Just style for the mall or something specific?

Not so much a tube bumper, more like winch bumper style. Not planning on having a winch but I like the style just don't need the weight.

You could try finding a style you like and getting a local metal fab to make you one.

Penguin VII has an excellent suggestion and if you let people know your approximate location someone may have a shop or person to recommend.

You could try finding a style you like and getting a local metal fab to make you one.

Thanks I was just looking to see if there was anyone who made one. Maybe if I can find the time I'll do it myself.

To my knowledge all the bumpers that will have mounts for winches will be made of ~~metal~~ steel (Edit: it's early) as I don't think aluminum has the tear strength to support a winch. I would cruise around on autoanything, bumpersuperstore, realtruck, etc. Find one or two styles you like and find a local metal fab place that can make one in aluminum.

Something to note though, aluminum tears and punctures much easier than steel. Keep that in mind if you ever do any light off roading or anything of the like.

To my knowledge all the bumpers that will have mounts for winches will be made of ~~metal~~ steel (Edit: it's early) as I don't think aluminum has the tear strength to support a winch. I would cruise around on autoanything, bumpersuperstore, realtruck, etc. Find one or two styles you like and find a local metal fab place that can make one in aluminum.

Something to note though, aluminum tears and punctures much easier than steel. Keep that in mind if you ever do any light off roading or anything of the like.

I appreciate the advice. I have no intention of offloading the truck or using a winch on it. The bumper is purely esthetic. I was just looking for the rugged look for the truck and I have seen aluminum used for bumper on other trucks. I worked as a fabricator for a few years so I could just make one up myself but I'm not sure I will have the time for it. Which is why I was trying to take the easy way out Lol! Thanks for the info it is appreciated.

Sounds like you know as well as anyone then. If you do fab something yourself or have something made make sure to share pics.
