Painted Tow Hooks Or Not?

Recommended Posts

Go to autozone and buy a cheap rattle can of your paint colour, that way it wont clash. I buy Onyx black for mine at Canadian Tire for $9. To me, painting a tow hook is like re-chroming a trailer hitch, pointless if you use them. Take that with a grain of salt as it was said by a guy who is painting his plastic GMC fender flares and maybe the box rail caps to match lol. By the way, that is a top notch looking C10.

Well, I went and pulled off the red and put my black one back on. I will wait till I get the chrome ones like I originally wanted.

When you swap out your chrome hooks, you maybe selling them?

Thinking about doing one red and one chrome, just to see how it looks. Since I have removed the factory black ones, the hard part (the drivers side bolt) is out of the way.

Y'all have given me some great ideas that I haven't thought about. Will look around for a chrome shop and also check my dealers in my area.

I am not so worried about getting them chipped due to never had to use them. Not that I say that, watch me need them the first day I put new ones on...

Update..

My brother in law started working at a GMC dealership a few months ago and found some chrome tow hook take-offs. Installed them yesterday. I really like them over the black and the red I tried painting.

My dealer installed their "chrome package" on my truck prior to purchase. My least appreciated feature of this package is the chrome tow hooks.  If these hooks were actually needed to help me out of a ditch,  I'd hate to see what a chain would do to the chrome. A black hook can easily be touched up with any black paint.  I agree with Penguin VII, keep the hooks discrete so focus can be on the rest of your truck!

Please don't use a chain.  Tow straps are much safer and will not damage your hooks.
