Truck needs an Exorcism

I replaced the cap, rotor, and ignition module yesterday, I'm kind of thinking along those lines also, waiting for an opportunity to take it out and test it.

you are losing spark.  this causes excess unburned gas in the exhaust.  when the unburned gas ignighted, that was the back fire.

Ignition pick up coil in the bottom of the distributor most likely culprit. It's right there with the module under the rotor. I usually replace both and use delco (gm) parts

Again, I had his exact symptoms...plugged exhaust.

If I were losing spark wouldn't the truck die all together? This thing continues to idle fine and even go down the road at 20 to 25 mph. However, I did change the cap, rotor, and ignition control module on Friday and after a test run around town it seems to be fixed, but I'm going to have to take it on a 50 + mile freeway trip to see for sure, but I'm hoping.
