Tow package mirrors on a 2018 Sierra 1500

I had the dealer install the large trailering mirrors on my new 2018 Sierra, which is not equipped with the tow package.  The mirrors look great, but the power fold feature doesn't work any more (the original smaller mirrors did power fold).  Dealer says that is normal on a 1500, Factory literature I see on line says otherwise.  They changed the wiring harnesses in the doors when the new mirrors went on.  Does anyone else have a similar experience?

There are different versions of the tow mirrors, ones with power folding and ones without power folding. It sounds like they gave you the non-power folding ones.

Dealer screwed up.... Should have sold you power folding mirrors..

Dealer trying to cover his butt. They put in the wrong mirrors, and they knew it.

Please tell me that you got you're original mirrors back.  As far as the mirrors not power folding, check out this thread. You could contact @pgamboa, sure he could help you out. Best of luck.

I see this happen time and time again and why most come to me for this upgrade. With my harnesses, my Supplier for DQS Mirrors, you’ll retain what you had.

The Dealer’s upgrade path is to provision DPN mirrors (Non-power fold) by way of the cheaper priced “Camper Kit”...

I hope you have a recourse with the dealer to fix this.

Like mention above I hope you got your original mirrors back. It sounds like you wanted the DQS but they gave you DPN I believe. Was the swapping of the mirrors part of the deal upon purchase?

wow great information everyone!!  Swapping mirrors was part of the original purchase deal - I'd pay for the mirrors like they were ordered as an option, and the dealer would install for free.

 

Yup, I did get my original mirrors back, although the service writer stated she "didn't know that was part of the deal".

 

I will need to verify the code in the glove box, but my truck has the memory seat so theoretically everything should work on the mirrors.

 

Pgamboa, I was a newbie and posted my comment before I found your information.  Looks to me like this is something that at least can be made to do what I expected & wanted.

 

My invoice shows the following parts were installed:

Mirror Kit 16.068 P/N 23372181  list $725.00  net $679.69

Harness 16.263 P/N 84125561  list $92.89 net $66.20

Harness 16.263 P/N 84125571  list $108.75  net $77.50

 

Can anyone tell from those part numbers whether I got the DQS or DPN mirror kit?  They had to order the harnesses in and that they were VIN specific, which added a week - or so the story went.

 

 I haven't gone back to the dealer on this yet, although I will once I find out for sure what was installed.

 

Pgaboa, you will be receiving an order if I dont get any satisfaction from the dealer........  I just want to be as happy with the mirrors as I am with the rest of the truck.

Heck yeah, you should be just as happy with the whole truck for what you paid for it for what they make off of them and for what they got you for those extra mirrors they better power fold for damn sure. They just screwed up and know it they will take care of it. If they don't let us know, I'm in the market for a new truck and this will definitely seal my decision on how to treat a dealer the next time I go in.

Don't let them get away with anything even if they argue with you. Typically they're just trying to cover their own butts.

DPN with chrome caps is the kit you have.  23372181 is chrome, 23372182 is black.  Both DPN style.  For DQS, the dealer has to order each mirror individually.  The harnesses they got your are the right ones for both DPN and DQS mirrors, so you just need the mirrors 84228891 and 84228892.  Although they claimed VIN specific, its actually a build date specific harness, as the harness changed design September 20th, 2017.  So, trucks before that date used design 1, trucks after design 2.

Brief Update -

The dealer has agreed to order the two power mirrors 84228891 and 84228892 and install them.  The harnesses they had installed first go-round

84125561 and 84125571 are correct per the helpful experts on this site.  Parts are due in next week.

Took the truck in to the dealer today and they swapped out the mirrors one last time.  Everything works 100% now.  pgamboa, you are a life saver.  Thank you for your expertise!!
