New Guy, New 2018 1500 LT 4WD Max Tow

Though I should introduce myself.  Just got a 2018 Double Cab Standard Bed 1500 LT 4WD with Max Tow.   I hate the DPN tow mirrors—got the truck to haul, not tow and I can’t get it in th single bay side of my garage—so I sent a PM to Phil.

Though new here I have been on one GM truck forum or another since 2002.  GM Trucks I have owned, in order of my owning them.  I have had way too many, though most were good rigs, and would still have the 2002 Duramax if a taxi cab traveling 50 mph hadn’t rear ended me while I was stopped at a stop light.

Welcome! Wow. That’s a lot of GM vehicles. It’s neat to see the list. I see you went from 1500 to 2500 twice in a short period of time :)

In never meant to have that many.  After my 2002 was totaled by the taxi, I got the 2009 LMM.  It got very poor milage for me and a couple guys suggested that a 2011 1500 would do a lot better.  It didn’t, so I traded and got the 2011 LML.  I loved the LML but I was driving it around empty all the time, was past the truck-as-a-hobby stage, and we had to move to a city 70 miles away and wasn’t sure about finding a house with a big enough garage.  Also there was more traffic congestion and tighter parking. So my wife talked me into the V6 Colorado.

The Colorado was s great personal driver.  Sporty with decent fuel mileage and easy to park.  While it had the payload capacity of a 25 year old half ton truck, I kept running into situations where I needed more hauling capacity.  Add to that the new house has a “four” car garage—three wide and 1.75 deep in the single bay side—and the 1500 made sense.   Just need the DL3s to replace the DPNs and I can again park it in the single bay side.

I’m not jealous about the truck(s).    The four car garage is an entirely different matter...

I suppose it’s technically a four car garage.  I could fit four Corvettes in it.  The garage is three wide, and then two deep on the single bay side.  One thing I hate about how they build around here is the put all kinds of crap in the garage.  They put this three foot wide by eight foot long stairway in the garage because the house floor is four feet a above the garage floor (house is on a hill, something else we don’t like). The fourth bay is really a shop that is 18’ deep by 14’ wide, and they put one of the HVAC blower units and the water heater on the back wall of that bay.  It should be code that NOTHING goes in the garage.  Also, the entire floor is sloped 1” per four feet meaning leveling the lathe that’s coming next week will be harder that it needs to be.  In effect it’s a two car garage with a small shop....

It was the absolute best choice when we moved here last year.  We tried to build on a 1-5 acre flat lot but just couldn’t find an acceptable lot.  The choices here are either on a hill or in a flood plain, and if it’s close to flat it’s VERY expensive.
