Top Speed governer

Unless you cough up some cash you'll have to deal with the speed limiter. I don't know of any "free" ways to overcome it. I'm sure there are some less expensive and some more expensive ways though...

My guess would be if you disconnect the speed sensor from the computer/speedometer that it would disable the govenor because it wasn't recieving any speed info (speedo would read 0mph). :wtf:

I'd say you would also mess up some other things since it's not getting a signal, like transmission shift points and maybe engine timing.

No, the speedo has nothing to do with engine or transmission operation. But if you did this the nospeedo would be much more annoying than the top-speed-limiter.

Reality check! Pardon me for being saftey conscienous. Let's see if I got this straight; you want to take your truck, that probably came with "S" rated (112mph) tires and remove the limiter so you can drive faster than the tires were designed to be driven?

Where do you live? I want to avoid anyone driving past the safe limits of their vehicle.

Lose control, kill yourself, too bad!

Lose control and kill your wife, kid or a completely inocent person who happens to be on the same rode with you....

If you want to drive past the limits of your tires, upgrade the tires first!

Bad to make the assumption that he still has S rated tires before you go flying off the handle.............

Most everyone is this forum is fairly educated you think he would keep it withn limits...........

Maybe he was looking to improve track times? I doubt it but find out the details before you go :smash::smash::lol:

And maybe he should have given that info to start. As in, "I've upgraded my tires to...and I'd like to bump the govenor limit." Is that too much to ask? And I'd have to dissagree that most have upgraded. BS!

My $.02

I'm just saying that there are too many drivers, being on this forum does not mean you are any different than the other guy who isn't, who mod the speed all to heck and want to disable a safety item.

Loungebird: IF you have upgraded your tires, please accept my appology!

True maybe that info has helped....... However how many joes on the street do you know that care enough about there truck that they want to join a great Forum like this and find out extra info? The guys that are truck/GM "geeks" (no pun inteded) are on this site tweaking the crap out of there trucks...........

So it's safe to say that over 60% are making safe mods. Give him credit he did know he could do it with a Programer so he had some knowledge....... I'm sure adding Ram Air to the trucks isn't a "SAFE" mod butt no one bashed anybody for doing it. WE've all pushed some vehicle to it's limit as some point in time.

True that not everyone mods there trucks... But guys that don't mod there trucks don't care that there truck bottoms out at 90. Keep in mind that my 2000 GMC had no speed limiter on it but my 02 does...........So is it safe to say that it was ok to go over 115MPH on my 2000? I would imagine not....

Well to add some wood to this fire....

I think the speed control sucks! I also don't think it makes any sense as well. So in other words what you are saying is if I want to ba a safe driver then drive a Chevy/GMC otherwise go drive a Ford that does not have it and go as fast as I like. How about some of those little rice rockets, no speed control. How about a 2003 Nissian Altima, I'm sure the tires are not rated as high as the car can go...no speed control.

The whole speed control thing is a GM thing probably to prevent unwanted law suites for someone getting killed in a truck and blaming GM because someone drove a vehicle that would allow it to go faster than the tires allowed.

How many other vehicle can you name with a speed control thing on it?

So that is one vote for getting rid ot it. Ultimately you need to take responsibility for your actions. By the way I also don't drive the speed limit which happens to be less than the speed limiter. I live in Phoenix so you might want to either move or don't visit. :smash:

Not to burst your bubble but some of the newer FORD mustangs have limiters on them as well. The FORD SVT Lightning has a speed limiter of 90 something or another...

I think it depends on where you live and what car/truck you buy as to if they have a limiter or not.............

reading you guys post reminded me of something that made me start laughing my A** off...i took a cross country trip a couple of months ago...8 weeks and 19000 miles...from NC to the west coast back along the southern broder and on down to Key West and back to NC...staying off the interstate...wonderful trip and a much more beautiful country than i ever gave thought to....anyway while on my trip i was passing a car and got up to 97 mph and all of a sudden the limiter kicked in and i 'bout shi*....lol....thought the darn thing had blown up !!!!....when it went back to running fine i started thinking about things i had read on this board and figured that was what it was although i didn't test it anymore....the point is, you can't beat the folks on this board....

best wishes to everyone
