That's the beauty of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It isn't on the owner to prove a thing. They have to prove whatever you've done caused the failure. Key word is PROVE.

You do have to provide receipts that you perform service as required by the oil life monitor. I’m sure by extension the required oil and filter. Being they have more money for lawyers, during the warranty period I don’t tempt fate. I know at one time I read it in a owners manual, self service is fine keep the receipts.
