Trailer Brake Contoller

Hello all new to the group, nice site, I have a 2017 Texas Edition 1500 Silverado LT Crew Cab, 2wd. My truck has tow package but not a brake controller on the dash. I'm wanting to put factory controller on it, am I going to need anything other than the dash switches? Thanks for the help.

So I have a 2014 Silverado crew cab with the tow package but much to my disappointment it is quite literally impossible to instal the factory brake controller if it Was not an option when the vehicle was built. It has to do with the fact that it is tied in to the screen on the dash and has a module that has to be programmed to the vehicle. On top of that there are a couple wiring harness differences as well. What I did. Is buy a curt brake controller and harness that plugs in right under the dash. I routed the harness to the inside of the ash tray below the radio controls. That way when I am towing I just pop it open and my brake controller is hidden when I’m not. Hope that helps!

Makes ZERO sense as to why GM doesn't allow controller to be added later, Ford does and it's like a 30 minute install

There are several threads on this forum with information on this topic.  I found myself in the same position as OP last year.  My dealer installed their recommended aftermarket brand in their recommended location.  You can either spend a lot of time and money on custom solutions or simply ask your dealer to put one in next time you're in for service or warranty work.  My brake controller now seems like part of the truck and does the job well!  (Or,  you could buy a Ford if they make more sense ;- ) )

No can do.  Have to go aftermarket as others stated.

You can add a controller in fact there’s one in the parts catalog takes like 30 minutes to install...

You can’t add the integrated controller because it’s integrated...

GM is of the opinion of if you wanted it you should have ordered/bought it that way and they have been for years  this isn’t anything new...

If you want a aftermarket on the dash like the integrated here is a thread with some different ones

Also trucks that come without the integrated are supposed to come with the pigtail to wire an aftermarket up so no need to spend 20 bucks one.

Thanks for the info, looks like after market it will be, as far as buying a ford, that'll never happen.
