Seat Lift kit to level out driver seat in 2018 GMC Sierra

I bought my 2018 GMC Sierra SLT about 3 months ago and was hugely disappointed with the comfort of the seat due to how limited it was in getting the bottom of the seat level. It has a 10 way power seat and i have always been happy with my older Chevy trucks and Tahoe seats. On the new one though, even though it has an adjustment for the height of the front seat it would never get anywhere close to being level. The back of the seat would raise up but at about half way up the seat then begins to just move up and forward as a whole, and therefore not getting any higher in the back, only higher all together. The difference in the front of the seat and the back of the seat was almost 4 inches. it always felt like I was reclining back and would put all the pressure on my lower back while also putting pressure on the bottom of my legs at the top of the seat. I am 6'1" and i never would have thought it would do that. It was so uncomfortable that i spent two weekends looking at Tundras to trade it in for. I then found a link on this forum to an entire seat lift kit for an older truck. I then looked at the rest of the items that Seating Solutions had on their eBay page and found that they made one for just the back of the seat for 2016 and newer Sierras. I took the bolts out of the back of my seat and put a 1 inch block of wood under each seat to make sure it would make a difference that was worth the $180 for the kit and man it was like night and day. I ordered the kit and then called Randy, the owner, when i was installing it to ask him a question. It turns out that he had been making the seat lifts for older trucks for a while and then created the back only one once he bought a new 2016 Sierra and had the same issues as i did. He has about 150 hours of development in the seat to get it just right. It is more than just blocks under the seat. There is a channel piece that closes the gap in the pivot piece at the front of the seat from being tilted up. The blocks themselves are steel and have the dow pins in them that create the second point of contact besides just the bolts. He sends the longer steel bolts to use for each side. He also sends a brand new side plastic piece that is an inch taller in the back to replace the factory one that will hide the wires from the bottom of the seat. The plastic trim piece is factory color and has the factory clip pieces for a snug fit.

I put all this in hear because it completely changed my ability to even own the truck any longer. I have a bad back and this was a life saver and allowed me to keep the truck I liked without losing money on trading it in on a new Tundra. I was also worried about the safety of altering my truck seat but after seeing the product and talking to Randy about the engineering behind how he built the kit I am not longer worried at all.

Hey Travis, your post has given me hope.

I too just bought a 2018 Sierra with the 10 Way power seats. I love the truck, but hate the limited seat positioning. I'm 6'6" and I'm constantly readjusting the seat on every drive in an effort to avoid a sore back.

Never had this issue with my 2012 Yukon XL or the 2008 Chevy Avalanche I traded in for the Sierra.

Thanks for the info and link. Will definitely look into the seat lift kit.

I bet it is even worse for you as you would be lower and further back because of your height. For the price of the T50 ratchet, which is only about $6, you can unbolt the back and put a couple 1" wood blocks under the back and see if it makes a difference. I wouldn't drive it that way but it gave me a really good idea of whether it would help or not on the comfort.

I hope you find something because there is nothing worse than spending that much hard earned money and not being comfortable!! Good luck!

Thanks, I ended up ordered the kit earlier in the week. Randy was waiting on the cocoa/dune panel to match my interior.

Hope to have it installed this weekend. I'll report back after installation.
