To Magnaflow or not?

I wanted to change the muffler in my 03' Sierra 1500HD cc w/ 6.0 . I called Flow master and got a pn that is supposed to be a direct fit pn: 530513. It's a 50 series non stainless. Then I called Magnaflow and got pn: 14594 its stainless steel. (12594 is non stainless steel) My problem is when I called Magnaflow the sales rep told me that this pn muffler is the one they suggest but I might not want it, do to high resonance in the cab. He said I should stay with a stock muffler? Not much of a salesman... The problem is I don't want a lot of noise in the cab at cruising speed. I take the family on a lot of very long trips and I don't want to drive everyone nuts but I would like a better flowing exhaust and wouldn't mined a little more noise at WOT. What mufflers are you guys using in your 6.0's please give pn's if different than the ones I listed so I can order it if you liked yours.

my dad just got the flowmaster one you're talking about. (he has a 2003 1500HD 6.0L, chevy) and it has a LOT of cab resonance. its really ANNOYING. its actually louder on the inside than it is on the outside, or so it seems. He doesn't like it, he's sorry he did it, he didn't want a lot of noise. but it does sound pretty awesome on the outside.

just installed the non s.s.(magnaflow) on my 00 5.3

the interior on the 22" x11x5 is stainless only the

exterior is aluminized and both have the lifetime warr.

there is resonance in the cab but if you drive with radio on

(on a little volume on the radio) you have to listen hard to hear the resonance

so far i am pleased with it

if you don't drive with the radio on you WILL notice the resonance

inside the cab but not near as bad as the flowmasters

cruise speeds i can hardly hear it at all

hey todd how was the install? How much was the exhaust? Trucks tv just put one on a dodge truck and the sound was awesome

the magnaflow itself was 68.00

and the shop charged me 35.00 to chop the stock and install

the mag

tokk about an hour and 20 minutes

he wanted to get it just right (perfectionist )

not bad , my next best quote was 155.00 plus tax

a very light rumble at idle from outside

and a progressive louder rumble upon acceleration

but never thumpy at all or throaty(flowmasters )

still getting used to it

Thanks for the info. So the Flowmaster is definitely out. Anyone have any info on the Magnaflow pn: 14594 stainless or pn: 12594 aluminized on a 6.0l?

I installed a custom Magnaflow aluminized 5x11x18 with 3" mandrel bent pipe and chrome tip. Sounds awesome with no resonance. It's quiet at idle but really opens up when you get on it. The definition of resonance was the SLP Loudmouth on my old Z28. I still have hearing loss from that setup!

In cab resonance is a subjective thing. What's resonance to one might be no problem to another. I thought Gibson's were too quiet at idle but resonantes like a bat outta hell at 60 mph. Course you have got those that will swear that the Gibsons are no problem.

 

I ended up with a PV system which also has in cab resonance but no where near a Gibson or series 40 flowmaster. Guess it all comes down to personal preference and trying them out.

 

I just switched from Airaid to FIPK on the truck. The increase in in cab resonance on acceleration is substantial, again this could be just my opinon and music to someone else.

That's one reason I returned the FIPK. Poor fit and finish IMO.
