Sierra 1500 MAX Tow Package

I recently bought a 2017 31ft travel trailer that weighs 6900lbs and has a tongue weight of approx. 640 pounds. I am using a 1000lb weight distribution setup and the truck is sitting level. The only issue is the front of the truck feels light. Any solutions other than a bigger truck?. The truck a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with the MAX tow package 5.3, 6 speed and 3.73 gears

WD Hitch is probably not setup properly. I have the same truck and tow nearly the same load (6500), but i do not use a WD hitch. Truck feels great up front. Maybe look into some airbags?

bmartin, I would also recommend having you weight hitch distribution set-up inspected for installation and set-up. That trailer loading is well within your truck's towing capacity. I've owned a 2014 sierra 1500 max tow with 6.2, 6 speed, and 3.73. I've towed a car trailer occasionally that was 7200lbs with a 600lbs tongue weight and didn't have a problem with light steering. Are you using your trailer brake controller? You didn't state your trailer's brake status, but you certainly want your trailer braking correctly as well. Best of luck!

I agree with the previous posters.  Your truck should handle that load with no problem at all.  I also think your WD hitch needs to be checked that it is adjusted correctly.

My travel trailer weighs just under 9,000 lbs loaded, and I use a 12,000 lb WD hitch.  No problems at all.

My truck is a 2014 1/2 ton Sierra crew cab with 6.2 liter engine, max tow package and 373 gears.

Agree WD needs to be adjusted I tow car hauler same total weight same hitch wt with 2017 6.2  and I had to change mt adjustment a few times to get front of truck down abit in the end my truck squats about 5/8” in rear when it tows best for me  i did add Summo springs ( they replace the stock rear rubber snubbers ) I like them way better than the airbags I had in 2010  silverado I towed same wt trailer

post up some pics of the hitch(hooked up) on level ground.

The trailer is in storage right now so I don't have any photos of it. When hitched up the truck is sitting level and the equalizer bars are parallel with the frame of the trailer

This is something I have been temped to do and I think you may benefit. Weigh your pickup rear axle with out the trailer and then again with the trailer hooked up, to see what your actually putting on it.

If its level with no extra wt on the rear  axles the hitch is not set right
