2007.5 Silverado Electrical Gremlins

Hello all!

Just purchased a NBS 2007 Silverado and am having a tough time tackling all of its electrical gremlins (nothing against Chevy, just the first year of a reiteration). The biggest problem I am facing is that the truck doesn’t seem to read when the drivers door is being opened (radio stays on, DIC lights stay on, dome lights don’t turn on). Weirdly enough, when the passenger door is opened, the dome lights turn on, and the DIC lights turn off, but the radio stays on. To add to the trouble, I replaced the drivers door lock actuator, to no avail. Granted, I can just manually turn off the radio, but id rather fix this problem if I can.

I appreciate all the help and advise!

thanks,

Dan

Do you know anyone with a Tech2?  This is the easiest way to diagnose this.  It can read internal BCM codes and test all of this stuff.

the door latch or the the lock motor? the sensor is on the door latch not the lock motor. if you know how to use a digital multi meter i would test the wires in the door boot. past experience i had was wires breaking in the door boot. but a TECH 2 would be faster

Stock radio or aftermarket?

Second the radio question. Seems to control a lot.

I left my sun roof open in some rain once, radio has not worked right nor the cruise ever since.

    Hi,

Swathdiver - you often speak of the Tech2. Would you be willing to make a new thread that specifically pertains to this tool? Currently, I do not feel that this tool is a mandatory tool box item. I would like to be proven wrong - so that I can go buy one. Are you willing and able to make a thread that promotes the use of this tool?

I am not suggesting a debate.

All I am looking for is information.

    Interested?

I'd be delighted to.  I'll write something up and post it tomorrow sometime.

I second the door passthrough boot.. take a razor blade and cut it open lengthwise and you might find more than one wire broken.. A tech 2 will only show codes and data on the up level models

with a driver's door module.

Thanks for the help everyone! I’ll look for busted wiring tonight! It’s an aftermarket KENWOOD (long stretches of boredom and no cars in Wyoming, the DVD player is a must!). I installed a doorman 931-303 Door lock actuator. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone with a Tech 2. In addition, when I was on the highway going around 65, I noticed that I was running around 3,000rpm, oil pressure around 30-35. Dropped it into 3rd manually, revs went to around 5,000. Parked the truck and shut it off and the gauge was reading around 1,000 rpm. Continued driving it, and now the gauge is reading ~500 rpm below actual. I’ll pull the battery tonight and see if that resets the gauge, otherwise, anyone know where to buy a stepper motor for a gmt-900 truck?
