Overheating problems after I overfilled my cooling system

Hi everyone I’m new here I joined hoping for some professional or just good advice. My truck is overheating I think because I overfilled the over flow tank and now it seems the coolant isn’t circulating ,my ac isn’t working (snowflake flash 3 times) and running a bit rough. I think either water pump or thermostat right ?

3 separate problems.vCoolant overfill should not be a problem. Excess would be expelled when hot

- overheating. Yes, typically thermostat or pump. But, if you had filled it, then it was low for some reason. Probably need to investigate where the loss went. Also, if a lot was needed, you might have air in the system. Park up hill, cap off, run for a bit.
- a.c. Probably low on Freon
- rough. If it's that rough, it would probably throw a code. If it's only at idle, then look at cleaning throttle, tps, throttle control (iac or equivalent), maf

Time to replace both!  Inexpensive and relatively easy.

if the fluid isn’t flowing visibly at the overflow tank that should mean your pump isn’t circulating the fluid.  If you had to fill it up to get to the point it overfilled then that means you are losing coolant.

Water pumps have little leak holes that intentionally start leaking when it’s about time to replace your pump.  Thermostats also fail and cause circulation issues

Secondly is make sure your accessory drive belt is actually turning the pulley and things are physically moving.   I’m not familiar with the electric water pumps.

if it’s been 50-100k since those components have been replaced and everything seems to be moving fine and no visible leaks from hoses, radiators, etc.  I’d say it’s a safe bet that’s your problem.

Thank you everybody for all the good advice I did order a pump  and a thermostat it will be here tomorrow  I also noticed a slight growl sort of noise from the pump area so I figured it was most likely the pump it’s weird though because my air conditioner works now I didn’t do anything to it other then tried it after I had taken that extra fluid out of the cooling system not sure if that had anything to do with it working but I’m glad that it’s working this truck has a mind of its own

As long as there isn't any water in your oil, most likely pump/t-stat. Might as well do the hoses and belt while you are in there as well. Also be sure to burp the system when you refill it so you don't end up with any air pockets.
