Spark plugs and wires

Recommended Posts

My Sierra only has 45K miles on it. I'm ready to change out the plugs and wires now. I'm going to go with MSD wires but don't know which plugs. Anyone have any recommendations or idea on which plugs to buy? Has anyone tried any of the platinum plugs? Are they worth it and about how much milage can I expect out of them?

Thanks in advance

Of cours I'll say NGK Tr55's gapped at .055. They are copper plugs and are cheap. I have had a few sets in my cars. Platnium plugs will last longer, but won't give any better performance than the stock A/C delco's. Also, platnium plugs are expensive, where the NGK's run about $2.00 each.

I'm about to change mine out. I already purchase the MSD wire set and AC/Delco RapidFire 12 Platinum plugs. I have ran the MSD 8.5 and the RapidFires in my previous vehicles. The MSD/RapidFire combo, I always thought gave the best overall throttle response, with minimal high RPM misfire. Although that was then with a single HI Volt/performance coil, so now with multiple coils there should be absolutely no misfires.

The plugs are $3.99 each.

:smash: Need an honest answer! Is there really any NOTICEABLE difference from the stock to aftermarket plug wires. The wires on our trucks are only about a foot long. I've been thinking of changing the stock ones out for some time now. Thinking of Taylor or MSD. Just want to get an honest answer. Thanks

An honest answer is going to be: no, you're probably not going to see a NOTICEABLE difference by just replacing the stock wires with MSD or Taylor's (unless you have one or more bad stock wires, then anything would provide a noticeable difference.

I've had the Taylor and the MSD and, honestly, I will put one or the other on any vehicle I buy. You may not see a noticeable difference by just putting them on, but they minimize resistance WAY beyond what the stock wires do, which means you're getting more energy to the spark. Also, IMO, these aftermarket wires are better than stock wires and should not need to be replaced nearly as often. Just my .02 :smash:

I noticed a smoother idle and smoother acceleration when I put NGK tr55's and my Taylor 8mm on. But, Thats me, not everybody will notice it.
