New member, thanks for the add. :)

 

I tried searching the forums for noises during acceleration, but the other topic didn't quite match my issue.  

 

(Specs: 5.3L stock. 112k miles. No after market parts that I'm aware of.)

 

I have a 2014 High Country 5.3L. I love this truck, her name is Pearline.  She is leaps and bounds nicer than the 07 LTZ I had.  But, like all relationships, over time, they start to dwindle.  (Heated seats don't work, fuses are fine. I'll search the forum for that next).

 

Issue is though:

 

If I'm cruising on a flat road or a decline, and I punch the accelerator, I don't hear it.  But, if I'm on a slight incline and crusing, if it down shifts without me increasing throttle, I don't hear it....

 

But, while in gear, if I give it more gas, while on incline, I hear a good awful noise. Only doesn't it at about 35-45mph. It only last a few seconds, then goes away, even if still accelerating.  Doesn't do it at higher speeds. Just down shifts and goes. Only when it's around 35-45mph and a get in it aggressively.

 

I'd say it sounds like a vacuum line, but that doesn't quite explain it.  Sounds like sliding a big metal cabinet across a concrete floor. But again, only last a few seconds, doesn't do it every time, but it does happen.  Didn't do it when I bought it. So I'm sure something has worked it's way loose or worn out.

Your heating elements are shot. '14 and '15 trucks were notorious for this. Mine have been replaced twice under warranty. Second set is still holding up thankfully.

 

As far as your noise....  not much help there.

Can you isolate the general area the noise is emitting from? Such as transmission, rear end or engine area?

Sounds like it's coming from under my feet. Or in the engine compartment.  It's not a super loud noise, but it's noticeable. I can try to capture the noise when I get off work.

 

As for heating elements, is that an easy fix? Something a shade tree mechanic could handle?  I'm a decently mechanic savvy guy. Some things I don't attempt, ie anything with engine/tranny due to safety reasons. But I used to have an old SS Monte Carlo and a Cutlass Holiday Coupe, and I was always going stuff to those things. Can't count on one hand how many starters and detent cables is had to put on. Lol

Heating elements you just need to remove the leather seat skin and replace the element pad. 

 

What tires are you running and how old are they? Under moderate acceleration I get a unique noise but it started when I put new tires on, so I think its due to the aggressive tread pattern. Just a thought.

Plenty of good people here. Unfortunately a few trolls also :troll:

My elements were replaced under warranty, so I cannot give you any details on how hard or easy it is.

From what I understand, the hardest part of the repair is removing or more-so re-installing the seat cover.

Other than that it is just a wire mat sandwiched between the foam. Both my seat cushion and lumbar back elements had failed.

I am with you on not attempting certain repairs.

Sometimes we can do more harm than good there.

Is your 4wd selector knob in 2wd? When in Auto 4wd or say 4hi you can hear certain growling noises which are normal. Especially when applying throttle.

Maybe a dumb question but check to see that your selector knob is in the 2wd position. Assuming you have a 4x4.

At first I thought bearings somewhere, or even yoke, but there is no loss of power when it happens. 

 

I'm hoping my Samsung's mic is sensitive enough, I'm going to try to replicate it and get a video of the sound.

I think your noise issue is when the truck is in v4 mode and you want to accelerate, but it takes a second for the truck to realize is is not making enough power, so it switches back into v8. I've heard a similar sound in that situation you describe. There is one stretch of road it always happens on when I'm going around 40-45 mph.

 

Try switching your DIC screen to the one that shows the v4 inidcator and see if it only makes the sound when you're in V4. It it really bothers you, there are ways to prevent it from going into v4, but I don't think its really a problem, just learn to ignore it.

To test what Andy is describing with V4 mode operation, select M for manual and use the +/- sign on your shifter and stop at M5

This will keep your truck in V8. Drive around for a while and see if the noise you are hearing stops.

    • Hello All!   My 2019 Colorado 3.6 LT, 4WD Crew Cab has approximately 77,500 miles and I recently began experiencing the well-known transmission shudder between about 30 and 65 mph. The problem had worsened to the point that I could no longer attribute it to road conditions - and I had decided to bring the truck to the dealer - when recently, I experienced a sudden loss of power while driving at maybe 40 MPH. Several warning lights flashed, the “Check Stabilitrack” message appeared, and the Check Engine, Stabilitrack, and Traction Control icons remained illuminated. The truck regained driving power, but it stayed in a low gear with unusually high RPMs for the speed. (limp mode?) Because I was only about two miles from home, driving slowly, I was able to make it back and run an OBD-II scan, which showed fault codes U0101, P0700, and U0100. My next trip in the truck was to drive it to the dealer the following day. That trip began normally, but after about a mile I experienced another loss of power, along with the same warning lights and the same “Check Stabilitrack” message. As before the truck remained driveable, but again operated at an abnormally high RPM-to-speed ratio and seemed stuck in a single gear. About a mile later, the dashboard lit up once more, this time displaying “Check 4WD.” Soon after that, I arrived at the dealer. I have verified that the truck still has its original factory transmission fluid, which means it has never received the corrective fluid exchange outlined in GM Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355.  That was Thursday of last week and I've heard nothing yet from the dealer.    According to Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355 and the build date of my truck, my truck should have the newer LV fluid. I've done a little research and read something about a problem with the wiring harness as well.   Anyone have an insights into this situation?  Thank you!!

    • Did you even read this article?   Even the title of the article says "U.S.-Iran Deal Doesn’t Mean a Swift Return of Oil and Gas Flows"   Remember, crude oil prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the oil companies.  Gas prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the station.  This article stated that many of the oil producing nations have to restart their processes to get the oil produced.  Then the oil has to be shipped to wherever.  And it doesn't get there overnight.  And most of that oil is not coming here. Check out this site:  https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10621   A graph will pop up to show where the US imports their oil from.  Notice that there isn't a lot of import from OPEC and Iraq.  Most of the US import comes from Canada. The US oil produces are selling their oil on the open market, which is why the US fuel costs went up.  So you're correct, the US oil companies are going to slow walk the price downward.
