Alternator voltage

Recommended Posts

I noticed the other day that my voltage gauge was showing way over 14 volts.  So I checked the output and it was 15.7 volts.  During my search for a replacement I come across a few statements sayin this was normal for these newer trucks.  Is this true,  has anybody else heard of that?  2015 Silverado 2500 6.0L  I did find a replacement at the wrecker.

Voltage is fine IMO.

At the wrecker?

Wrecking yard, auto salvage?

Not for me but to each their own.

This is normal. Have a read through your manual.

Thanks for the replies.   I have given up on the new manuals as they usually don't have much info, but I will have to read through my manual now.

Alternator output is controlled by truck computer.

(as opposed to a simple voltage regulator in days gone by)

If its operating outside acceptable range it will provide a warning message/light.

Besides the info in the OM, there is lots more info posted on this site from the upfitter manuals.
