I am completely new to the diesel world and im trying to learn about this whole regen thing. I know its important to keep the filter clean and that it should do it when it sense's it should. However, I bought the truck in October 2018 and two days after i got the message on my dash to keep driving so it could do its thing so i did. Since then it has not come back on and i dont recall it going through a regen process like i have seen online. Does this mean something is wrong or has it just not been needed? Its a daily driver from anywhere of 40 miles to 60 miles round trip with little stop and go. Also I live in Alaska and right now during winter I do auto start my truck in the morning from anywhere of 10 to 20 minutes and it does have high ideal on, not sure if this makes any difference. Basically should i not worry or should i take my truck in and have them force regen it?

Most owners will NEVER see the 'keep driving' message.

The message only pops up if the truck is unable to keep the filter clean enough with the normal regen process.

'Elevated Idle' function is a great way to warm up both engine and transmission, but it does not go regen when stationary.

If regen is not completed when the truck is shut off, it will resume (if it thinks it is necessary) as soon as it is warm enough and speed is high enough.

Its quite possibly doing it and you might not notice it.

I have a Colorado Diesel, but the systems operate pretty much the same.

Biggest telltales from my experience.

When its doing a regen is your idle RPMs in drive (D) will be elevated when at a stop (at normal operating temp).  For example, my Colorado idles at 700rpm when not in regen, foot on the brake, in gear stopped.  When in regen, its 800-850rpm, foot on the brake, in gear stopped.

MPG.  If you have your MPG screen on (either the live read or the live read with the scores).  My live readout at say 60mph non regen will read lets say aprox. 35mpg.  When in regen, its a solid 20-22mpg.

There are no lights.  The message will come on if the truck can't automatically do it for some reason.  Example being it starts one for a couple minutes, you shut the truck off. Come back to it in 45 minutes, and the message may appear.  It could also appear if there is an issue with the system, and it says drive the truck (this one though might not clear out and could lead to a check engine light).

You can get an OBD monitor that should show you if a regen is active.  Banks iDash, etc.
