Phone connecting to Bluetooth/ no alerts

Has anyone else had issues/ found a way around not being able to hear your alerts (text/email) from your phone when connected to Bluetooth and listening to the radio/xm/etc? If I happen to be listening to music from my phone, I get all the alerts just fine, but if I’m listening to the radio, no alerts happen, which is frustrating because I’m constantly checking the phone for texts/ emails while on the road. To be clear- when the phone rings, I get that alert and it switches over to Bluetooth with no problem.

It's the same with my 19 HC,  2017 Audi Q7 and my 2014 Corvette, I think it's by design.

None of my K2 or T1 trucks every did this. I wish I could get the email ding alert sound. Text alert comes in ok assuming you use the texting app chevy has.

I believe you can use this option while you are wire connected to Android or Apple Auto. It just comes as pop up on the screen.
