I was down at a local repair shop the other day talking with the owner. A guy came in and asked what kind of warranty was on the tires he bought a little over a year ago, since the steel belts are showing on two of them. Well it turns out that he has put 36K miles on them with out rotating them, or ever having the minivan aligned. The shop owner told him warranty doesn't cover that and he could sell him 2 new tires as the back ones were perfectly fine, and the van needs to be aligned.

Well here comes the good one, the guy said while you have it in here can you change the oil, it was last changed when the tires were put on 36K miles ago.

I guess this is why I am so picky about the vehicles I buy used. Some people just don't care about their vehicles at all. I feel sorry for the person who buys that van after it is traded in, that is if it is still running.

STUPID YUPPIES!

People would be amazed at how long BASIC maintenence like that can extend the life of a vehicle. Our last Ranger ran PERFECTLY when we sold it (1986 model). Regular oil changes, fluid changes, tune ups, etc... simple stuff like that got it there. It ran great and shifted great. Our Contour, a POS from the factory, suprisingly runs great as well. Trans shifts great, engine runs smooth as silk. Neither has had to have a repair done.

People are so stupid these days they just don't understand that mechanical things need a little bit of care too. It isn't like getting an oil change or tire rotation is that much of a hassle.

It's like some of these people forget what happens at work when the copier or other equipment breaks down. They just don't think of cars and trucks as machines with moving parts that need care.

I'm kinda suprised it's still running after 36k without an oil change....ya suppose he added new oil.....or maybe when he went to full service and they did it for him.....I shouldn't make fun though...my mom has never pumped gas in her life....after 57 years I won't let her though, that's a pretty good record, and it'd be a shame to lose it.

People are so stupid. I read that some lady with a Lexus didn't have her oil changed for 40,000 miles. It was changed 1,500 miles are it was bought, then she forgot about it. They said the oil was like tar. The engine had to be replaced.

people are idiots.. pure and simple..

some lady in a WHITE F*RD Exploder (2003 brand new) has NEVER changed the oil in that thing.. She pulled out from a Mickey D's (thankfully I was on a 4 laned Highway, so I didn't get stuck behind her..) and that thing was BILLOWING smoke.. and smelled HORRIBLE!!! why get a NEW vehicle if you aren't gonna take care of it?! not even 2 minutes later a camaro (or a rustang, forget which.. wasn't paying attn.. it was a sports car, ok?) coming the other way was billowing smoke.. i'm like OMFG! CHANGE YOUR OIL.. is it THAT complicated? I was almost tempted to try to get them to pull over and give them 30 bucks to go get it changed!

some people don't deserve to be behind the wheel.. PERIOD.

Oil changing is so SIMPLE! Go to Jiffy Lube and get the 30 minute Quick Lube! It is better than nothing! Hell, get the $18.96 thing at Wal-Mart if you are that pressed for time and money! Just do it, it is better than SLUDGE!

I know a guy that doesnt change oil, he just adds it if that. I usually pull the dipstick and it will have a thick glob of the blackest grease on the very tip of the dipstick. Needless to say he never gets a vehicle that lasts very long.

A buddy of mine brought his ZR2 Blazer up for me to put brakes on the other day, '99 with 19,000 and the rears were gone. I went ahead and changed his oil and greased everything, the dealer told him they changed the oil and greased everything when he bought it a while back at 15,000 miles. Well they lied! The magnet on the drain plug had a lot of fuzz and a thick grease like substance on it. I had to take the zerks out and use a hammer and a punch to break loose the ball so they would accept grease, plus all the boots were completely colapsed!! I personally dont think it had been greased since new in '99. And I dont see why parts havent failed??

I've known alot of folks that won't change their oil. Who knows why. I think there are more of them around than alot of us realize. There are many who change it every 10K or so which isn't quite as bad.

I'll will say one thing though-if you leave the same oil in there for 50+ thousand miles or whatever...when that engine goes it's gone for good.
