hey everyone i currently own a 2012 sierra slt allterrain 5.3lc9 that developed a slight lifter tick in the fall but has never gotten any worse, well im not overly concerned right now i know what it will eventually lead too.. i brought up additives on a couple other forums being i have to change the oil and figured what better time to try then now.. well i never got a real ans to my question delete kits were brought up by a few members but thats just not in the cards right now or the wallet...lol.. i got a reply from another member about using 99-07ls parts to build my own kit..a few other members also piped up sayin it was a go. this really intreges me because i have 2 lm7 in my garage.. a 4.8 and a 5.3... ...

is this true can i use one of those motors to build my kit.. if so what parts do i need from the doner motor..

Yes,

The cam is the main part. Please read threw this link and cross reference all the part numbers for your build. You will need a single bolt camshaft from your old LS. Also, Don't cheat yourself. As this is a swap you will prolly be diving into again, get ARP head bolts so you can reuse them later.

You will need a new head gasket but in theory you can ruses a lot of the other gaskets.

awesome thanks mikebtte

I knew I'd be into buying gaskets and stuff.

looks like i also need  to delete the vvt to use the lm7 parts in my lc9. does not look like a big deal all parts are already on the lm7 motor.. other then new gaskets and bolts as u had already stated.. will also need to get the ecm done to tune out the afm and the vvt

Ya, the AFM disable is important. You can just leave it unplugged and have a Check engine light on, or send it and for $50 lt1swap.com will disable it. Sounds like you got most the parts. You can use the valley covery and timing cover from your old engine.

For the 8 oil valley holes you can tap them and install plugs. Just make sure to not get metal in the oil galleys. I have filled the passage with grease and then tapped them, you can than clean out the grease and metal pretty easy.

The 4.8 is not an LM7.  The LM7s camshaft is smaller than the one in the LC9.  If you want the stock cam without the AFM mods, use the Gen III L33 camshaft.  About the only parts you'll use are the sprocket and timing chain and tensioner but they're cheap enough to buy new.

The LC9 has a much better oil pump too, don't get misled into swapping for the LM7s either.

Texas Speed and others sell an AFM Delete Kit that contains all the parts (normal lifters, new cam, etc.) you need to mechanically un-castrate your LC9 and make it be a real Chevy smallblock V8 again like Ed Cole and Zora Arkus-Duntov intended.

Like they said on here, you will need to also reprogram your PCM afterwards to turn off the AFM function in the computer.
