medic717 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Is anyone running the volant system with the Donaldson power core filter? If so what is your impression?
pewterliftedz Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 I've run the Volant intake on my past 3 trucks, I like them alot for their closed box design. My current truck I use the regular oiled filter, but I've used the power core on my 2011 Sierra 6.2. Not much difference other than the power core requires no maintenance, just pull it out and bang some of the dirt off of it. I decided to run the oiled filter this time since they are supposed to flow better, I doubt there is much of a difference.

Just came in today and I installed it about 30 mins later. So far I like it. I had the oiled on the previous truck with no issues at all. I just like the idea of the powercore not requiring oiling.

Supposed to clean them on a regular schedule and use warm water and simple green type of cleaner and let them dry. Tapping them doesn't clean them, and with that kind of maintenance you will suck enough dirt to dirty the MAF sensor over time. I'm a big fan of dryflow, just they aren't some miracle product where you don't need to take care of them.
pewterliftedz Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Power core is not the same thing as a dry filter, it’s a multi layer filter that is supposed to last 150k miles
Bohanan23 Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 I doubt any of the filters make much difference, maybe a few HP at most. I want to get one and run the dry filter though. Found the old black bear contest with CAI's and the AEM and Volant made the most. Stock was 291 HP and 315 TQ. The AEM and Volant made right at 330-335 TQ and 310ish HP. This was on a 6.2 but I'm sure not much difference in gains on the 5.3. The AirAid Jr didn't do anything like I expected.
