dumb question but, how strong is this plastic lower bumper to stand on? seems like a good step to get under the hood for checking fluids, seems sturdy enough but hows it attached

You should not stand on that.

 

You should get an aftermarket grille to protect your radiator and trans cooler.

X3. I'm 155# wet and I wouldn't stand on it. Probably knock the whole damn bumper off!

 

Get a cheap stool for checking fluids and keeping her pretty!

It's cheap plastic, it will most likely crack the whole piece....but if it does its a good excuse to get the chrome piece.  Now the bumper is plenty strong and has a nonskid pad to stand on, not really deep for a full foot but it does work, just be careful, if you slip off of it your shin or knee will hit it.  I have used the tow hook before but it's a tight fit.
