Transfer Case: Materials other than shavings?

2018 Sierra, 4wd, CC, standard bed, extra tow pkg

I just changed my transfer case fluid for the first time at 35k. I’m not gifted mechanically so I watched a couple YouTube videos for help. Besides being sloppy, everything went smoothly. I also changed the oil so I’m thinking I might go pro(; In my research, everyone had metal shavings on the magnetized plug. In addition to those, I had another small magnet. Is this anything I should be concerned with?

Yes that looks like a needle bearing. Might wanna ask a tech at the dealer about that.

Could be a locating pin to join the halfs together.

way too small for a locating pin. x3 on possibly being a needle bearing.

For an '18, I would get the truck back to a dealer and show it to them, they should take the TC apart to figure out where it came from.

The powertrain warranty is 66k or 2023 so I have some time. Basically they said it should be no big deal but they’re going to ask the higher ups at GM for assistance.

If GM thinks it should be examined closer or if I start to notice any issues I’ll bring it in for them to take it apart.

Thanks again for the help. If anything comes of this, I’ll update the post.
